School-Aged Children

Oldest goes to Kindergarten

My oldest starts Kindergarten on Tuesday.  We are all so excited, but I am kind of sad too.  I am going to miss him when he is gone everyday.  My mind keeps going back to when he was a newborn and just wanted me to hold him all the time.  Now he says, "no kisses Mom."  They grow up way to fast.

Re: Oldest goes to Kindergarten

  • My oldest starts kindergarten Wed, we had open house last night and visiting day is Tuesday.  So excited for her.  She has always been in full day daycare/preschool so this is not a huge change for us schedule wise.  Love her teacher and her BFF and a lot of kids she knows from PreK are in her class.  Just very excited in our house for this next phase to start.  They do grow up way to fast though!

  • It's certainly a milestone! When my oldest started K, it was still 1/2 day where we live, so it was sort of a logical step from the 3 half days she'd been doing at preschool.

When my youngest started K two years ago, I also went back to work.  It was a HUGE change.  I just bawled after he got on the bus.  I felt like a whole phase of my life had come to an end.

However, I must say that I love, love, love the new phase -- being a parent of school aged kids instead of having a preschooler at home.  We aren't together as much, but the time we spend together is really FUN without all the heavy lifting of parenting younger kids.  It's SO much easier and so rewarding to see them become big kids.
