I was under the impression that BF'ing will help give DD antibodies so that she will not get sick as often. Umm... she gets sick almost every other week! I can't imagine how often she would get sick if I didn't BF.
I was also under the impression that your boobs get bigger when you BF. (That did not happen during pregnancy, either!) However, a co-worker asked me the other day if I was still BF'ing since my boobs looked small. =
What BF'ing things did not hold true for you?
Re: Breastfeeding Bogus
DD caught some sort of bug a month ago and ended up in the hospital hooked up to an IV with antibiotics for 2 days because of a fever
. It was a horrible experience and they never did figure out what was wrong (although apparently it wasn't bacterial, so the IV was unnecessary. Pretty much she had all of this stuff pumped into her and went through this huge ordeal when the only thing that really helped her was Tylenol anyway). I was so disappointed because, like you, I really felt that I was protecting her from something like that by EBFing. She doesn't go to daycare, and I suppose there were a couple of places where she may have potentially caught this bug, but I don't really know how it happened.
Anyway, I had a really hard time BFing at first, REALLY hated it, and barely stuck it out... It also contributed a lot to my baby blues and anxiety early on, and I've only become comfortable about a month and a half ago. After the hospital experience, I felt really let down by the whole thing - here I was, finally comfortable and OK with BFing after everything that I've gone through emotionally, and it did absolutely nothing to help her!
I AM glad that I stuck it out, and I wouldn't trade it for anything now... I understand that I don't have the antibodies for everything and that I can't protect her from all diseases just because I BF. Still, I think a little part of me is disappointed because I placed so much hope in the benefits, and yet we had to go through so much despite of it.
Ha ha - this one is me, too!
With DS my boobs went up 2 cup sizes - but he also had so many ear infections that we ended up getting him tubes at 14 months.
With DD my boobs didn't change sizes but she hasn't gotten sick yet.

That I would be engorged when my milk came in, and that I would leak all over the place.
ETA: Your co-worker also sounds kind of rude for saying anything like that.
I also never got engorged when my milk came in. The only time it happened at all was when DS started STTN. And I rarely leak.
My big one is that BFing will help you lose your pregnancy weight. I am still 15-20lb above my pre-preg weight, and it is not going anywhere.
Yes. Me too!
Mine only looked bigger when engorged, and like another PP I didn't get engorged when my milk came in, only when LO would sleep longer periods at night! (And when I had oversupply issues, which occured at the exact same time. FUN!)
