Is it possible to have too many lovies?

My DD1 who will be 3 in October is obsessed with certain toys and if she doesn't have those certain things with her when it is time for bed makes it hard to get her down (or she will wake in the middle of the night wanting it). Here is what she needs to go to bed.

Her character pillow pet

2 dolls

Her snap braclet

An old teether toy (which she doesn't chew on...she just likes it)

Her slippers on her feet

4 blankets

None of these things oddly enough keep her from falling asleep (as in she plays with them instead of going to bed). I am just wondering if this is normal to have so many things that she wants to have with her at night.

  • My son has 7 members to his "entourage".  He takes the following to bed with him: A Frog blanket; a doggie named Froggie; a doggie named Rusty; an Elephant; Elmo; A Monkey and his most recent acquisition, a Stegosaurus named Scooby.

He sometimes will tuck each one of them in before going to bed himself and if they are bad he will put them in time out.  It's quite cute but it can be a pain  when he tries to bring them with him when he wakes up because he now has too many stuffed animals to carry at once!

  • I think it's normal. DD1 goes through all kinds of phases where she does/doesn't want things to sleep. At one point she could only sleep with 2 specific blankets, 4 specific stuffed animals, and a pillow with double sided character pillowcase and she needed a certain side facing up. Now she refuses anything except 2 blankets and occasionally a random toy or something from her dress up box. I figure as long as it's not preventing her from sleeping, why fight it :)

Now I have the show on my mind. Smile

Ds has atleast 3 things that he needs, but his most favorite thing is his Mickey Mouse blanket.  I have considered going to Babies R Us and buying another one, because the few times we've left it at daycare have made for horrible nights.

  • Trev has quite the "entourage" too.  Over the past few months it has gotten worse...I'm hoping it's just a phase.

He has his pillow that must be covered with a crochet baby blanket, a flannel Aden + Anis blanket, Bobby Bear (mine from when I has a little girl), Spot the dog, Baby - the doll that I bought preemie sized oneies for at Carter's the other day - I am losing my ***!, Seaweed - the Fisher Price seahorse we recently had to replace because the other one crapped out, Ooo - the monkey from his Wubbanub, and no less than 3 books, in a basket, that must also be on the bed.

Typing it all out has pushed me to retire something!  I'm hiding the dog tonight...& I'll try to slowly move more stuff out.  Wish me luck!

  • My DS used to have three blankets (but now he uses a toddler bed comforter), small Elmo, baby doll, dog lovey, bear lovey, blue bunny, and Chickfila cow.  it's getting extreme.
