Ultrasound makes me question paternity

My ex and I had relationship problems starting in December but were still seeing each other in January...  We called off our relationship at the end of January and I got to know someone else for a very short time at the beginning of February. Based on initial scans things matched up with my edd...

Well... there is only a week and a half difference between my last time with my ex and my time with the man I thought to be the dad.

My ultrasound today has baby measuring super far ahead... if the measurements are to be considered slightly inaccurate by two weeks then the baby could be my ex's. Baby is measuring at 35-36 weeks... I'm only 31 weeks... two weeks off from the ultrasound measurements would leave room for my ex.

I'm sooo confused right now.... I have yet to be able to talk to my doctor about any of it...

Too boot I've been going through pre-labor symptoms that would be consistent with baby's measurements...

I did call my ex and we had a discussion about it all and he is willing to do a paternity test when LO arrives but I'm just soo confused and not sure how to process this now since I've come to terms with doing this alone since the "sperm-donor" doesn't want anything to do with the baby. gah!!

Re: Ultrasound makes me question paternity

  • It takes about 2 week for the hormones to be detectable in urine from conception. why dont you put down on the calendar when your last period was, when intercourse occurred with everyone, when you ovulated and when you were late. I hate when doctors say you are measuring 2 or 4 weeks larger than you actual are, which is why I am glad my OB didn't do any of those things. MY 6 week ultrasound lined up with intercourse, we measured for an estimated weight at 20 & 30 weeks. Either way for peace of mind you will want a paternity test IMO.

I believe that for measurements to be helpful to determine the date of conception, they have to be done in the first 10 weeks of your pregnancy. After that period of time babies start growing at their own rate and measurements are not as accurate.

^^ This.  After the first trimester, babies do what they want basically.  Perfect example?  This baby is measuring around 27 weeks, but I am only 24 weeks.  If I was actually 27 weeks pregnant then the period I had in March was my imagination.  My Dr isn't changing my EDD because babies grow at different rates later in pregnancy.  Heck, you may have an ultrasound next week or the week after and the baby hasn't grown as much.

Do a DNA test when the baby is born.  That's the only way you'll have a definite answer.

Even if the u/s measurement wasn't that much off, I think given the week and a half difference warrants a DNA test to be honest.

This. That's so close it really could be either guy. Get the DNS test as soon as the baby is born to know for sure.
