I am having somewhat painful period like cramping..

And I am nut sure if these are braxton hicks contractions?  They dont hurt per say.. but they aren't painless... they feel like the beginning of your period cramps.  They started last night in the middle of the night and I am still feeling them now.. I was just walking back to my desk and felt a sharp pain in my leg... I am trying to get in touch with my doc, but until then.. any advice?

  • I agree with the other ladies, rest and drink water.  The sharp pain in the leg might have been sciatica, was it kind of like a shooting pain?

  • yes it was. ive read about BH and most ppl say they are painless but mine are not painless..  im confused and my doc prolly wont call me back today because its friday.

Even if they are BH, you shouldn't be having them with such frequency. If you are having consistent contractions, you need to go into your doctor's office or L&D....

    IMO.

I agree.  It sounds more like prodromal labor than BH.  BH are uncomfortable, and most women confuse the discomfort with actual pain at first.  Where in your stomach is the pain?  If your doc is not efficient in returning calls in a timely manner, you need to go in or go into L&D.  The leg pain sounds like RLP or sciatica.  As long as it's stopped or was a one-time thing, I wouldn't be concerned.

  • It is in my lower abdomen.  It feels exactly like a period cramp.  Could this possibly be the baby growing and the ligaments stretching?

  • Also I am 28 weeks.. I so confused.

It could be. Contractions come and go... BH or labor contractions.

Is this a consistent pain or intermittent??

  • im not really sure. it has been pretty mildly consistent since I felt it start.  Like right now I only feel it a teeny tiny bit, but I do feel it... there is nothing to time.. so I am almost positive they are not contractions.

I had this with my first pregnancy at 26 weeks. It is possible that it is ligament pain, but I went in and was actually contracting. I didn't realize it, I thought it felt more like a constant, dull period ache than contractions that come and go but they hooked me up to the monitors and sure enough I was having contractions! They hadn't yet begun to dilate me, thankfully, and one shot of terbutaline was enough to stop them so I was sent home on bed rest for a few weeks and didn't have any more problems. I also carried my baby to 39 weeks. Hang in there and if they don't let up and you don't hear from your dr, just head in.

I wish I had more advice for you, but I'm not a doctor. If you are genuinely concerned, I would strongly urge you to seek the opinion of a doctor.

    Keep us updated though.Smile

  • When I was 24 weeks I had these same pains. I went into my doctor and was sent to labor and delivery. Turned out they were actual contractions. They did a few tests and I wasnt dialated. But they gave me this shot to stop the contractions and gave me an IV to get some fluids.  They kept me over night and had to give me another shot to stop the contractions. Sent me home the next day and put me on bedrest for a week. Go into your doctor or L&D A.S.A.P. Dont think youre overreacting or anything! It is much better to be safe than sorry.

  • I think you should call L&D or go in, just to be on the safe side.  There are things they can do to stop premature labor if that is what you are experiencing.

if it is nothing, then you can put your mind at ease.

better to have a false alarm than an uber-premie!

  • Since it's a holiday weekend, I would get thee to Urgent Care.  Like PPs have said, it's better to be a tiny bit embarrassed you overreacted than go into labor because you waited three days for a call back.
