I have both sizes! The preschool is very small, but perfect for a l.o. to wear. It can fit a change of clothing and maybe a few other small things, but not too much. I also bought her the small size which can fit her matching lunchbox inside along with a change of clothing and some other things. It has 3 zippered compartments in all (preschool has 2) but it is far to big for her to wear. I dont think she would be big enough until shes in kindergarden or older...I bought it more so that I could wear it. I wear it peach picking, at amuzement parks and all of those types of places where a shoulder bag can be a burden....
DD has the mini size preschool backpack that she received as a gift for her first birthday. It is great for traveling and going to dance class with. Unfortunately for preschool though her lunch box doesn't fit and neither do her folders that go to/from school, so we'll be going with a bigger size preschool bag.
Depends on what she needs to take. I carry DD's stuff in the large one, because with a sheet (we have the PBK chamois sheets) a blanket, her lovey, a change of clothes, a couple diapers... BUT if you're only having to take a couple things the small size is still pretty decent. I have seen the preschool size, but I'm guessing you could fit a change of clothes and something in there. If you need to bring nap stuff it is probably too small.
I have both size and definately recommend getting the larger size for school. By the time you add a change of clothes in the small one there is not much room. And papers get shoved into it. I like the small one for trips to the store or church.
