Hello, my 6 month old daughter has been EBF until she was 4 months, the doctor told us to start her on solids. over the last couple of weeks I have noticed when I pump I only get about 1 ounce, where as before i could pump 3 sometimes 4 ounces in one sitting. Has my supply decreased? Is there anything I can do to increase what I am pumping out?

1) Has your period returned yet? Often a drop in supply is an indication of that.

2) What kind of pump do you have? I have the Medela PISA and I know sometimes changing the membranes helps with output.

I love the Bailey pump. You manually control the suction to maximize your output. It's affordably priced at $165, but if you send an email to Wild Orchid Baby, you can rent it for as long as you need to. Unlike other pumps, like the Medela, this one is FDA approved to be used by more than one user because each mother gets a brand new collection kit.

It's probably because baby has started on solids and is not breastfeeding as much. Continue to breastfeed baby as needed and pump in between those times or every 4 hours overnight. You can also use herbs to boost your milk supply. I drink Breastea from breastea.com and it's helped a lot. When you don't need the extra milk anymore just stop drinking it. Hope that helps!
