Can baby's antibiotic pass to mom?

DS was put on an antibiotic today for an ear and eye infection. I realized tonight that it's in a class of antibiotics I have a reaction to. Will it affect me to nurse him while he's on the Meds? Not sure if it can transfer.

  • I don't think it would affect you. I can't think of any way it would get into your body from the baby. I hope LO feels better soon!

  • If I were you, I'd rinse his mouth with water if he takes the antibiotics right before nursing.  It may irritate your skin if it's in his mouth and he latches to you, especially since that is very sensitive skin.

  • I don't know about passing from baby to mommy but my DH is allergic to an antibiotic that my dog is taking and he can not even touch it. I have to give her the meds in another room and make sure that I wash my hands a couple of times.  They also told him to stay away from her urine because the antibiotic would be in it.
