Re: ST+M's Newborn Question's

  • I am looking forward to snuggle time- its the freakin best!

This time around I plan to "wear" baby around instead of using the carseat as a carrier. I have heard that if you are wearing baby (in a moby or some other kind of wrap) it deters people from asking to hold baby. Since our babies will be born at the beginning of flu season, I am feeling extremely overwhelmed with the thought of 50 people wanted to hold the baby the first time we go to church- but I also dont want to avoid going to church. I didnt have a moby with DS- so I am really excited to join the moby community this time around :)

  • I am looking forward to the cuddles.  The firsts, first smile, first time they roll over, etc.

I definitely know what to expect this time.  Last time I went in thinking "Oh breastfeeding will be easy, my child will sleep through the night"! Ha I was wrong.  B/fing was the HARDEST thing I have ever did . I thought labor w/o and epi was easier.  But I stuck with it and b/f DD for 13 months.  She also didn't STTN til 10 months so now I know what to expect. :)

Oh my gosh! I couldnt agree more! BFing was NOT easy at all. My cousin had her baby 6 weeks before me and was BFing and having her around was amazing- she kept telling me, get through the first month and it gets so much easier.... She was right! I am so glad I had her around for motivation!

  • The snuggiliness!  No, I totally did not make up that word :P

Seriously, tiny babies are just so sweet and snuggly and they smell so good.  I love it.  I love that just being near me can calm them and that I can easily meet all their needs.  It's just an awesome time.

I don't know that we'll do a ton differently this time (actually, I'm totally happy with the choices we made for DS that I'm more worried about what if we try to do the same with this baby, but they have a different personality and it doesn't work.  We'll have to remember they're a different person and might need us to parent differently!).  I think mostly just trying not to worry so much.  I feel like I spent a lot of time worrying about whether we were "doing it right".  I still tried to trust my instincts, but you know how it is as a FTM.  This time I hope I have the experience to REALLY trust myself and just be a little more laid back about things.

  • I look forward to feeding time--it's the best time to bond and talk with your baby, even to vent about your day.

I will be forgoing the infant car seat. I couldn't carry it for 6 weeks after my c/s, and then by 2 months my kid was too heavy for me to lug around in the car seat. I have all these wraps and mei teis I make so I'm just going to use them.

  • The Moby saved our lives when DD was an infant, as she got bigger and squirmey we switched to the Boba (which is the same as the ergo).

I am also looking forward to the cuddles and going through all the firsts again.

DD had really bad colic and I feel like I am now prepared for the worst.  Like every FTM, I thought my LO would be perfect, never cry, sleep all the time and that was not the case.  DH and I were completely unprepared and overwhlemed.

I am also not afraid to wear baby ALL THE TIME.  DD loved being in the moby, but I felt like a bad mom, not giving her tummy time or letting her go in her swing, but everytime I took her out of the moby she would cry.  So I feel like this time around, if the baby wants to be worn, then that's what I will do.

BF'ing is soooo hard, but I am more determined this time around too.  We had to stop at 10 weeks with DD, because of the colic, she would not feed properly and I lost my milk very fast.  I was also very intimidated to nurse in public or around family, wghich limited where I went and whatI did.  I met a great group of girls last time that would nurse anywhere, so I feel like I have more courage this time around.

THere are a lot of videos out there. That's how I learned. I was also terrified for carrying DS on my  back. Now, I do it like a pro. And I have a wrap and a mei tei, which is less fancy than the Ergo. BOTH are amazing, but I think the wrap gives better back support for mama.

  • I will get out of the house much sooner this time. Being cooped up in the house is good for no one. I will also try not to stress about being. For however long I do it, that's great, and that's that. I look forward to little snuggly baby in little snuggly clothes, going through all the firsts again, and seeing Evan interact with his brother.

ETA- being is supposed to be breastfeeding.

This.  OMG.  There is just no way to prepare for that.  We laugh now but we seriously were like "WHY do people have kids if this is what it's like???"  I like to think the odds are in out favor that we won't have another one like that... but worst case scenario, we've now experienced it and lived through it.  We thought that was our new life and now we know that even if it's THAT bad again, it's temporary.

I think trying to wrap my mind around a different kid with a different personality is tough.  It doesn't matter what I plan to do differently because this LO will have his/her own preferences.  I do think I'll get a moby this time... and I'm excited about a winter baby.  DS was born into 100 degree heat and it sucked.

I don't even think I'll take LO to church, honestly.  LO getting sick in those first first few months is not something I want to chance.  Maybe that's overkill but a fever in a newborn is such a big deal... I'm not sure I can take the chance in flu season.  I am excited about trying a moby though.  It was just too hot with DS.

Missing church just isnt really an option for us- it is too important to us. But I am not afraid to tell my church family to get their hands off my baby! To be honest.... DS will be in preschool and be bringing stuff home from there so I dont really see it as a big deal as long as we are smart about it. With DS.... I didnt leave the house for like 2 months.... I refuse to do that this time around.

  • I am more looking forward to meeting this new person - see what s/he looks like, how s/he is different/same as our son etc!And seeing how henry is wtih his new brother or sister.

I am plannign to baby wear a lot more, I think it will help balanvce the baby's needs for closeness with my son's need for me too.

Im apprehensive about a few things, mostly as they relate to balancing the two and minimizing henry's jealousy etc. BFing was a really great experience and pretty easy for me so I am a little worried that it wont be as smooth this time.

This is my biggest fear.  DD will still be going to daycare full time and I am terrified of flu season with the new baby.  DD got hit bad last year with the stomach flu three times and a viral infection that we fought for a month.  I do not want to go through that again this year with a LO.  It was also DD's first flu season in a daycare setting so hopefully she built up immunity.

  • I look forward to the cuddle time and the new baby smell.  I also can't wait to see what he will look like.  Will he look like me, or like DH?

I think I will put this one down more often for naps.  DS slept on me constantly, and I could never get anything done.  DS will be 16-17 months, so I don't think I will have the option to just cuddle on the couch all the time with the baby.

  • I'm really looking forward to sweet baby snuggles and also BF'ing. While it is challenging I love those quiet moments and I love the bonding.

This time I'm not going to be as stressed with trying to get things done. After DS I felt like I needed life to go back to Monday-playdate, Tuesday-grocery shopping, etc. and I really let myself get overwhelmed when I had a hard time doing those things with 2u2. This time I'm going to do what I can and try to keep my other children on their schedules but I'm also not going to stress the small stuff. :)

This.  I'm worried enough about what DS will be bringing home from day care.  We truly don't miss church often (like unless we're sick) - it's really important to us, too, so I totally get not wanting to miss it.  This is the one time I'm willing to make an exception.  We can always go in shifts so that someone can stay home with baby.  I never think twice about seeing other people there with tiny babies, it just makes me nervous, especially at that time of year.

Yes.  I believe you can.  There are like 6 or 7 different ways you can wear it and I think there is a newborn option that supoorts the baby properly.  I got it when DD was 3 or 4 months old already, so I skipped that option.

With DD I pumped for 10 long months in an unlocked closet right in the middle of my open plan office. Horrible!
Now I work at home and am just SO looking forward to no pumping no bottles to stress over.

I'm also just do excited to see what she is like. Her sister is a riot!

  • The first time I was so paranoid to hold the baby too much- people always caution you about holding the baby too much and how you need to let them lay on the floor, in a swing, etc. We know this is our last child so I am holding this one as much as possible!
