How did you do the 3 day potty training method?

I've seen several methods, and lots of pros and cons to each method.

What did you use and did it work well?

DS does pretty well at home, but anywhere else is not good. We are trying again this weekend...it seems like he knows what he's doing when he's naked but struggles when you put something on him.

  • I've been home on maternity leave and about 2 weeks after DS was born she was showing alot of interest.  I planned on staying at the house for a week.  I kept her in underwear all day and left a little potty outside (we have carpet so we stayed outside as much as possible).  I bought a few crafts to keep her busy outside.  When she did have an accident I took as long as possible to clean her and made her take bath, just because she didn't like it.  I made her go ever 15 min at first, and then eased off as she started to tell me.  I made the mistake of giving her lots of juice at 1st to really get the message across.  I learned she just wasn't ready for it and I planned her drinks more carefully.  If we were going out I didn't give her anything to drink within an hour of leaving then house, if we were home I was more lax.  I think the 3 day title is misleading though.  You take off diapers/ pull ups, and hopefully they get it in 3 days, but it may take a few days longer.

  • DS got rid of all his diapers, the 'diaper fairy' came and took them and gave them to all the babies.  The next morning, he wore underwear and a t-shirt.  I gave him lots to drink and constantly asked him to tell me when he had to pee.  He only ever had a few accidents.  I must have taken him to the toilet about 40 times the first day.  He picked it up quickly, but we also did it a week before his 3rd bday.  By the 3rd day we took a small outing.  He did great.  We had a sticker reward system...he loved it.  I found potty training pretty easy.  I thought it would be a nightmare with him peeing all over the house and having many accidents.  It wasn't like that at all.  I also think it had to do with us waiting till he was almost 3.  Good luck!

  • We used Lori Jensen's method and it worked wonderfully.  This method focuses on giving the child control over it.

  • I'm using Lora Jensens method this weekend. I don't think putting DD on the potty every 15 minutes would work so I like that you keep reminding them to tell you when they need to go and prasing them for keep their undies dry.

    Let's see how it goes.
