Was BFing your 2nd (or 3rd, etc.) more difficult than your 1st?
I had a relatively easy time nursing DD, and we were able to BF until she was 16 months old. I hope for the same with my 2nd when he arrives in a few months. ![]()
Is there anything that you would recommend doing to prepare for BFing your second baby? Can you give me any tips on how you managed your time between a toddler (she'll be 2 years 4 months) and the demands of nursing a newborn?? That's honestly one of my biggest fears right now: that I won't be able to devote the time that nursing requires in the beginning.
I'd love to hear about your experiences!!!
TIA!
Re: Mamas with 2 (or more)
I'll be honest and say my girls and I have not really had any problems with breastfeeding, DD1 nursed for 2 yrs, DD2 will also be allowed to self wean (barring deployment). That being said, DD1 started noticing my breasts again during my pregnancy and talking about "mommy milk" for her sister, that continued after DD2 was born and even now she points out, often more than it is true, that her sister wants "mommy milk." I don't think breastfeeding DD2 caused any problems between me and DD1.
GL!
I'd say easier for sure since I knew more of what to expect. I was fortunate to have a fast nurser so I never had lots of time where I was balancing a nursing baby and a toddler. If you have a slower nurser, nursing in a carrier can be helpful so you can stay on the go when out and about. They are so portable in the early days and sleep anywhere so it was easy to still keep Callum's schedule and hit the park and such whenever we normally would. Plus with BFing, you always have baby's food
Nursing can also be a good time to snuggle with your big kid too and read stories or something.
Everything seemed so much easier the second time around!

LO won't latch and DS 1 is a hindrance to BFing. If I sat down to nurse, he wanted to jump all over me and refuses to be distracted by other things. He also really amped up his nursing when he realized the milk was back. I honestly think if I didn't have DS 1 then DS 2 would be nursing.
