Small chest and pumping

I have a very small chest, not even a B cup. I just started pumping once a day yesterday to get LO used to a bottle. But bc of my small chest, I can't seem to get comfortable. I feel like I have to lean forward, otherwise the milk just sits in the flange. Am I doing something wrong? I have a PISA if they matters. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Small chest and pumping

  • I'm also not a B but I've never had problems pumping - I have the Ameda PY though (not sure that it matters but I don't know how the PISA might be different).  On the Ameda, the milk doesn't really have anywhere to sit in the flange - I guess maybe if I leaned back?

    I usually pumped while at a desk surfing the web so maybe I was leaning forward a bit.

    Sorry, this was a completely unhelpful answer!  I think pumping in general is weird so it may be it just needs some getting used to.

  • I agree with the pp.

    Make sure you are using the right size flange. And remember, the size has more to do with your nipple, rather than your breast size. So even though you are small, you may not need a small sized flange. Try a few different ones and see what works.

    I also use the pumpin pals, they made it much more comfortable for me. They also make it so you can lean back a little, even though I still hunch over a little.

    1. Are you using the right size flanges?2. So? I always let the milk collect in the flange...with a good pump bra, it shouldn't lose suction or leak, and the milk helps make pumping more comfy. I just lean forward before unhooking.You could also look into pumpin pals. They didn't work for me, but they have a great return policy if you order direct from the company and try all three sizes.nbsp;

    1. I think they are the right size. Any tricks to know for sure?
    2. Oh. I was afraid the flange might leak if it pooled there. I'll try letting it go tomorrow. I don't have a pumping bra though, I'll have to get one.
    I don't know what pumpin pals are, off to google now thanks!!

  • Try a Simple Wishes hands free bustier-it will hold it all in place- so you can relax while pumping.

    I made my pumping bras from various bras w/ holes cut over the nipples. Yeah, I take my shirt off every time, but this works way better for me than the one pumping bra I bought.nbsp; The Gilliam OMalley sleep bras from Target work, or an old sports bra to hold the flanges nice and tight.

    Thanks! I'll try that.
