Honestly, we bought one before DD was born and it sits in a drawer 99% of the time. We use our cell phones to record the funny things she does. We'll probably use it more when she's older and we're filming for more than a minute at a time.
DH bought a Canon Vixia HFR10 from Best Buy the Christmas before I had DD... Its ok, but honestly (as PP said) I tend to use other devices more (Ipad 2, digital camera, cell phone...).
I'd say you would be best off to get a good digital, point and shoot camera. Many even shoot in HD now, and its way more convenient to carry around in a diaper bag than a camera AND a video cam. My little Canon point and shoot has come in handy so many times when my video cam was nowhere to be found....
We bought the little FLIP right before DD was born and really like it because it has a USB attached and you can connect right to computer. As easy as that is, these days we use the video on cell phone even more! It's just so convenient and always there.
Thanks for the suggestions. We do not have smartphones, so a separate video camera is a must for us. Both of our digital cameras are about 5 years old, so we are in need of a technology update in our house!!
