birthday party ideas...

DS's 3rd birthday party is in a week and a half.  I'm just starting to plan food and activities....there will be kiddos 3 up to 10 years old attending.  Any ideas on 2 or 3 simple activities I can plan  to keep the party moving? Pinata was as far as I got...TIA

Re: birthday party ideas...

  • Do you have a theme?   If you're doing trains, have trains set up.   I did cars for D's third and we had a beanbag toss into an old tire...that was a hit.    At his 4th birthday party, the kids got icing and all sorts of sprinkles to decorate sugar cookies.    They also made their own pizzas.    I put a personal sized pizza crust on a piece of tin foil(I wrote the kid's name in sharpie on the foil).   The foil went on a paper plate along with a spoon, a small cup of sauce, and a small cup of cheese.   I had other topping in bowls on the table.    The kids loved making the pizzas.   I just needed to pick up the foil and transfer it onto cookie sheets.   Before the party, I figured out how I was going to fit all of them onto 3 sheets so I could cook them all at once.    Making the pizzas was a fun project that took up a lot of time.

Other fun games-pin the ____ on the _____.   I've seen pin the cherry on the ice cream for a sundae party, pin the 1 on Thomas for a train party, pin the hat on the cat for a Seuss party...you get the point.

Hot Potato is always fun and instead of a ball, you can use something that fits your theme, such as a car.

  • DD went to a bday party and they had filled up a kiddie pool with water and bath toys. Then the kids took turns "fishing" out the toys with a butterfly net. They LOVED it!!

DD still has the toy she caught

  • I've found that bounce houses keep kids entertained FOREVER. I don't know what your budget is like, but you can usually rent a bounce house for 4 hours at around $100 (sometimes less).

Disney Cars or just plain old cars?    DS's 3rd bday was race cars.   I had all his cars out for the kids to play with.   Did bean bag toss into an old tire.   Had a craft table set up with car coloring pages.   We also had little wooden cars the kids could color with markers.      His cake was a race track!   I made used 1 round pan and 1 9x11 pan for the cakes.   Cut the round cake in half and stuck it on each end of the 9x11 cake to make a large oval.   Iced it so it looked like a race track and put a couple brandnew hot wheels on the track.   Huge hit!

    For Disney Cars

You could play pin the lighting bolt on Lighting McQueen.

Ramone's house of body art-temp tatooes or face paint

Cute snack idea...make rice krispie treats and use red, yellow, and green m & ,m's to make them look like traffic lights.

  • If your theme's cars I would have plastic cars in the gift bags, I would also order Cars themed decoratives.
