former bed sharers

We bed share.yes I know its bad, not a good thing and a bad habit. It just worked great for us when she was a newborn with my school schedule, BF and the layout of our house her room is opposite side and on another floor.  when she was born we had the basinett then the p n p which she never used and now she usually sleeps half of the night in the rock n play that I bought a few months ago 2nd half of night she sleeps in bed with us. Now that she is getting bigger (still only about 18lbs) she moves around more and needs more room. She naps in our arms or in her swing, at daycare I think she naps in the bouncer or they rock her and put her in crib for a little. She is usually rocked/nursed to sleep. Last night we tried to let her CIO for a little because we knew she was tired. She cried and fussed for about 3 min. and go so worked up she was throwing up..this has happened at least 2 other times. where she cries and gets so upset she throws up. I just dont know what to do..I feel like I wouldnt sleep good if she wasnt right next to me. we all get decent sleep but I know I need to be hard and break this habit and I know it would have been easier if we did it from the beginning. I have thought about trying to bring her crib up to our bedroom or get her in pack n play. or converting her bed into toddler bed and laying with her then once she is good asleep then leaving her in room..and have the video/sound monitor..

Re: former bed sharers

  • We bed shared from the start, so I wouldn't say it's bad. We enjoyed it and plan to do it again if we have another LO. But when DS started moving more, we decided it was time to move him to the crib. First thing I did was cut out night nursings. That was actually the hardest part. After that, I would nurse/rock him till he was almost asleep, transfer him and rock his butt till he fell asleep, or was pretty close. He almost always woke back up, would cry or whine, and fall asleep. If he cried longer, FI and I would take turns going in and rocking him. It eventually came to the point we could just say night night, put him in bed and he goes to sleep with minimal whining. It took about a week. GL!

  • I feel like I have been posting this a lot, but reading The Sleepeasy Solution worked for us.  I didn't even have to read the whole book.  DD was sleeping in her own crib within 3 days with very minimal crying.  I still give DD a night bottle rocking her in her rocker but she is still awake when I put her in her crib.
