Question About Pedialyte

Baby girl is fighting thru a virus that is giving her fever diarrhea. Our pedi suggested offering her Pedialyte, so we did, but she won't drink it! I bought the mixed fruit flavor...do you think she doesn't like the flavor? She is a little behind on her solids so she hasnt had fruit juice yet so there's not a particular flavor she's already familiar with. What about the unflavored Pedialyte? She's not a huge fan of water from a bottle, so I immediately ruled this out...is it worth a try? Please let me kno what worked for you when you first gave LO Pedialyte. TIA!

Re: Question About Pedialyte

  • My mom suggested warming it up (he won't take a cold bottle).  He drank a whole ounce that way.  I also mixed it in his baby food and he didn't notice.

  • My baby just got over a nasty virus that made her very dehydrated. She won't drink Pedialyte even the unflavored one. I ended up having to mix it in with a little splash of apple juice and then freezing it. I gave it to her as ice cubes in a mesh feeder and she got some that way. Good luck.

  • A Nurse in the ER advised me a while ago to get the unflavored one because the flavored ones are really sweet tasting. However DD did ok with the grape flavored warmed up.

  • Try the pedialyte popsicles.  My mother always said that babies like to suck on them because it makes their gums feel good too.  Breaking a part of the popsicle and putting in a mesh feeder might work well if you don't want the actual pop to go in her mouth. Good luck and hope she is doing better.

This!! DS won't drink it either, but he loves the Pedialyte pops.

  • I don't have any experience with this yet, so this is just an idea. Could you mix it in with his oatmeal or cereal? Hope your LO feels better soon!

We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And HOPE does not dissappoint.
