Bedsharing success stories?

Hi! I read these boards a lot but have never posted before. I guess I am in need of some encouragement.

I have an almost 1 year old who sleeps in our bed every night. He still sleeps like a newborn and is up, on average, 4-5 times per night (and more when teething or sick). He usually just nurses and goes back to sleep so it's plenty bearable for now but I am wondering when (if?) this will change on its own? I figure he won't sleep through the night for quite some time but I am hopeful that maybe he will start to wake up fewer times as we slowly get there.

If you sleep/slept with your baby, how old were they when they started sleeping longer stretches and how old when they finally slept through the night? Did they get their on their own or did you do something to encourage it?

Thanks for any stories or advice! I love sleeping with him but look forward to the day when we can all be a bit better rested. I should say when I am better rested, my son seems fine with the arrangement Tongue Tied .

  • Both my kids didn't consistently STTN until they finished getting all their teeth in (around 18 months).

  • DS1 woke about every 2 hours from 7-12mo. At about 14 months he started to stretch it out (right after he started walking and was eating mostly solids rather than BM, if those things matter). From 17 months to now, he goes to bed about 7:30 in his floor bed, wakes at 12:30ish to pee and get in bed with us and then sleeps until about 6:30. After he was a year, I would sometimes not nurse him every time he woke by default, but that was the only change we made and that was still done gently. I think he just had to grow into sleeping more in his own time.
  • Thanks ladies! It feels like it just keeps getting worse as he is now fighting going to sleep every night but you've given me hope that maybe we are a few months away from at least a slight improvement. Hope is a powerful thing when you're tired!
