We've done this kind of thread before but lots of new people + people change their minds + I don't remember the answers unless it was posted in the last two days. And I loved CTbride's answers and now I want yours.
Assuming infinite time and money...
What is your dream vacation with current/future children?
What is your dream vacation with just you & partner?
What is your dream solo vacation?
Re: Vacation
What is your dream vacation with current/future children? UK (ideally with kids older than 10-ish)
What is your dream vacation with just you & partner? Australia and New Zealand (would also be happy to take kids)
What is your dream solo vacation? 10 day Vipassana mediation retreatI'm going to pass on the kids vacation, only because I don't know my kids yet so I don't know what they would love. My wife, who loves Disney World, is excited about the prospect of taking them there, but since SIL and future Grandpa have Disney time shares, it's not really in the "dream vacation" category. Anytime we can afford the airfare, that's probably where we'll be going.
My wife and I have been saying for years that we're going to do a Greek Islands cruise for our 25th anniversary/50th birthdays/whenever we aren't supporting kids anymore and can put aside money for something like this (which at this rate will definitely not be 50th birthdays!). But we haven't had the opportunity to go anywhere in Europe together -- and have only been once each on our own -- so there's a huge list of places we want to go: Italy, Paris and/or almost anywhere in France (Loire Valley, Provence, Bretagne), Vienna, Munich, UK, Spain.....
Huh. I've never really taken a solo vacation. Probably somewhere I want to go that my wife isn't crazy about, though at the moment I can't think of where that would be.

With Ky: For her age now and even a bit older, Disney. When she is much older I would like to take her to Europe. I got to go in HS and it was amazing!
Solo: A LONG cruise: Mediterranean, Carribean...either of those would work For like 2 weeks straight I want to lie on a cruise ship and drink fruity alcoholic beverages and get a tan.
With kids: Once they're older, I'd love to go on a summer-long driving vacation to show them lots of U.S. landmarks (grand canyon, etc.) and places where our families are from. Part of the "infinite money" piece would be hiring a professional photographer to come along and capture the journey.
DW and I alone: I'd have to split the trip between Italy (where I've never been, but would like to go) and someplace beachy (for S, who loves listening to the ocean). Little on the agenda, and lots of lounging.
Solo vacation: I'd probably find some outdoor adventure type thing to do. I spent a month canoeing through the Canadian wilderness with a small group of people from college once, and it was awesome. S isn't really into camping, so I wouldn't feel bad about going alone.
IUI #3 gave us the best 2nd anniv. gift ever: 2 babies! (born 03/09/10)
Peanut and Little Man are getting so big! 2 years old already!
finally blogging again at This Will Be: An Adventure
With kids: We would love to take them to New Zealand, and also do Australia and some of the Pacific Islands while we're down there.
With Jen: This will never happen, because of the cost and her seasickness. But I'd love to do one of those 3-month cruises that goes all the way around the world and stops at dozens of ports. We would have so much fun together!
Alone: A yet-to-be-identified spa where I would spend two weeks eating great healthy food, taking hikes, getting massages, and reading in a hammock behind my tiny cabin.
I want to travel everywhere, with kids and DW. With truly unlimited time or money we'd just take off and do the whole world. Maybe minus some war zones and particularly unfriendly to LGBT people countries.
1. I've heard Asia is great for traveling with a baby, so maybe we'd do a big several month long tour around that continent?? We've talked realistically about Germany as baby's first international trip. I also want to do Disney and road tripping the US and other domestic travel, but I won't spend my unlimited time/money on that because those are things I plan to spend my limited time and money on!
2. I guess something that I won't be as comfortable doing with kids. I'd love to go to Egypt or Morocco, but have serious reservations about traveling in a Muslim country as a female same-sex couple with kids. African safari, plus beach, plus South Africa sounds pretty awesome too. I'd love to do some international volunteer tourism, like an awesome program I found volunteering with elephants Sri Lanka. I'm interested in other similar programs doing things like volunteering with orphans, except I have serious ethical reservations about "poverty tourism" and the potential harm done to those communities. Some sort of lay on the beach and relax vacation in the Carribean sounds pretty awesome right now too, and would be a very different vacation with kids who are not known for sitting still to lay on the beach.
3. Vacation by myself is not my favorite thing.... I went to Belize alone a few years ago and I had an awesome time but I keep wanting to go back with DW or to have someone to reminisce about it with. Maybe Australia because I keep joking DW won't go with me because she went with her family.

Oh yeah, I totally want to do a National Geographic round-the-world cruise, but I think it's all old people. But I still want to do it.

Noted! She loves cruising though, so for her that's part of the allure.

Ditto this. I'd LOVE to go to Morocco, but don't know how comfortable I'd feel.

What is your dream vacation with current/future children? Well, given that we just got back from vacation with them and Carter is lucky we brought him home
.... No, really. I would love to take them to Disney. I am a Disney addict and adore it. They are at a great age for it and I think they would love it. I would also love to rent a cabin on a lake in Maine with friends. Let the kids play outside all day, have bonfires at night, boat on the lake, etc. I am also interested in those vacations that have kids clubs where the kids can go for a few hours each day while L and I have alone time. But we can also spend time as a family. I think that would make for an awesome vacation for us.
What is your dream vacation with just you & partner? L really really really wants to go to Ireland. I am not as keen, but would go since she is so passionate about going. I also would like to go back to London. Domestically, I would love to drive California - do Napa, SF, San Diego.
What is your dream solo vacation? Anywhere? I would like a day or 2 alone and then would love to meet up with my BFF for a few days. I am not really picky where.
