Boo. I just called my insurance company to see if the new women's health reform affected my eligibility for breast pump reimbursement and they said it's only available to employers who renew on or after August 1st -- and my employer renewed on January 1st so I won't be covered by the benefit until they renew again next January, after I will have already delivered and purchased a pump. *sniffle*
Re: Breast Pump Insurance Reimbursement
That thought occurred to me but my hospital charges $75 a month plus I'd have to buy all of the membranes and such so it's just impractical for me to go that route -- I'd be at least halfway to a new pump by the time I was eligible.

Nope, it's not covered at all, even with a prescription, until my company renews. It sucks.
ETA: Under my plan it would be considered part of a Flexible Spending benefit, which I don't have. *hmph*

Hi,
I'm usually a lurker on here but I had a question regarding this. Will you need a breast pump right after the baby is born? I'm planning to return to work but I'll have 8-10 weeks of maternity leave. I was planning to rent a pump for 2 weeks in the middle of December (about 4-5 weeks after my baby is born) and then buy one after January first (or return the rental and re-rent one in January if my insurance only covers rental). The only reason I'm planning to get a pump would be to build up a milk supply for when I return to work and the baby goes to daycare. For the STMs who've done this before, do you see any flaws in this plan?
Thanks!
EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT, but I started pumping when she was 8 days old. I never BF in public, so I always pumped before we left the house/while we were out. I would say start building a stash early on is key- I never overproduced much so it was personally hard for me to build up more than one (sometimes I was lucky and had two) days worth of feedings. The only reason I could maybe see needing a pump earlier would be if baby was having issues latching... but you could either just rent earlier, or buy a cheap manual one to help get you by...
HTH!
