Favorite Nicknames for Caroline?

Caroline in on our short list, and I was curious what nicknames that you like or think of for for the name.

A nickname isn't a requirement, but I am more just curious what pops into everyone heads first or is your favorite.

I think I like Cara the best.

Re: Favorite Nicknames for Caroline?

  • I don't like nicknames for Caroline. I think it's just too pretty in full to be shortened.

And I typically agree (ex: we already have  Charlotte that we call Charlotte), however, I think with a three syllable name having a shorter nn is not a bad thing especially as they get a little older.

I completely agree.  Caroline is not on my list for 2 reasons: 1) DH insists on a nn for whatever name we choose.  2)  I am not a fan of DH belting out "Sweet Caroline" every time I mention the name.  I really, really love Caroline as a stand alone name.

  • I'm typically a big fan of nicknames, but I've always loved Caroline on it's own. The only Caroline I know that does use a nn is Carrie.

  • Carly. I know I am the odd ball out on this but I do not like the name Caroline. I do however LOVE Carly.

  • I love Caroline on its own. If I had to use a nn it would probably be Carrie.

  • I have heard Lina (Lee-na) used, and I think it's pretty. Carly is also cute.

  • Cari, Cara, or Lina.

    All are decent options!

  • I think NN's should be more organically derived and think almost anything that means something special to you or dd is fine.  All the Carolines I know (love it btw) just go by full name so nothing is jumping out at me

Carly is my second fav nn for Caroline... perhaps even tied for first with Cara.  Carly is just so cute, but fun.

^^This. If I had to choose, I suppose Cara is nicer than Carol.

  • First nn that came to mind is Carly.  Although Caroline is nice alone.

  • I know a Caroline who sometimes goes by Caro, which is kinda cute.
  • I'm "Carrie" and people ask me all the time if it is short for Caroline or Carolyn (which it isn't).

For NNs, you could use Carrie and Care

  • I love the name Caroline but also love names with good nicknames therefore I have endlessly google searched this topic. These are the results I have found so far - some are a pretty big stretch

Cara, Carrie, Carly, Carol, Clio/Cleo, Caz (popular nickname for Caroline in other countries I think?), Caddy (old nickname for Caroline), Ro, Arrow/Arow, Line, Liney, Cici

  • I would not shorten Caroline into anything.

However, we have a Caroline on our street and she goes by Carly.

  • I really like Cara.

Not really a fan of Carol.

  • We call my friend Caroline, Caz.  Though, she is from the UK, and its common over there.

  • Our daughter is Caroline.  I agree with others, I like Caroline without a nn.

However, sometimes we, along with close family and friends refer to her as Liney. It's cute and I like to use it sometimes, but I always introduce her as Caroline, she'll be Caroline when she goes to school, etc.

  • I don't like nicknames to begin with. We named our Caroline because we like the name. It's pretty as is. No need to shorten.

  • We are naming our DD Caroline, no nickname. I think Cara and Carrie are cute though. I wouldn't have a problem if she wants to go by those names.
