1st Trimester

Showing way early!

So I've gained 14lbs and I'm only 11 weeks! It's all in my belly and boobs. There is a woman at work that is 5 months pregnant and we are the same size!!

What gives? I feel so silly telling ppl I'm only 11 weeks! This is my first pregnancy and I'm trying to keep it a secret until at least 13 weeks. Especially at work but my coworkers have to be catching on. I went from pencil skirts and fitted tops to over sized sweaters and stretch pants, and it's 90 degrees out!!

Sorry for the venting, but I'm really embarrassed. Anyone else showing so ealy with their first pregnancy?? I started showing at 8 weeks!

Re: Showing way early!

  • Not judging, but have you been eating for two? Unless you were underweight, 14 pounds is A LOT. (Don't let that inspire you to start dieting.) Baby is still very small at 11 weeks, and your uterus is very likely still within your pelvis , so it's probably not baby showing.

You are probably battling the evil first tri bloat-- a combination of constipation, gas, and water-retention. We all get it. Most first-time mamas start showing anywhere from 14-22 weeks because your abs haven't learned to move aside and your ligaments aren't as stretchy, yet.

Hope that helps. Sorry if it was a little blunt. :-/

  • You aren't "showing"...it's bloat.
  • I get super bloated in my first trimester. Like looks like I'm 18 weeks bloated..then it goes down before I really start to show. However I do have a friend that gains most of her weight in the first trimester and then barely gains any in her last...I don't get it. Everyones different I guess.

  • It's probably gas and bloating. You won't start really showing until a couple months left in your pregnancy.

My best friend gained twenty pound in her first trimester, but she was under weight. I think its just bloat! :-)

  • Don't feel bad. Talk to your doc about diet and nutrition. I am 10 weeks and have a much larger belly than pre-pregnancy. I am tired of everyone on here saying your to early to be showing. Yes I know it's bloat but I look like I have a 5 month bump and I highly doubt it's going to deflate. I have only gained 5 pounds. Go ahead and get some maternity clothes so you can be cute and comfy. Embrace your belly it's only going to get bigger.
  • Please accept my sincerest apologies for using the wrong terminology. By "showing" I literally mean that when I put on clothes the only thing showing to the world is my belly and my boobs. I know my baby isn't that big now and it's probably all bloat and gas and all those fun things. My point was that I wanted to see if I was the only one since most first pregnancy women hardly show until mid way.

I was so upset about it that I went to the doctor, she said she wasn't concerned at all. I came here for support  :(

I was103lbs very athletic, I'm 5'2" and now I'm 116llbs. I eat more than I normally do only because if I don't eat every few hours my m/s is unbearable. But I'm definitely not eating for two.

So yeah, now I just feel worse about myself- thanks a lot.

For those of you supportive, thanks I appreciate it :)

Try not to be too upset. Everyone here is overly sensitive...and some forget that they come across a little short.

At 103lb you are a tiny little thing! Of course you're going to gain and grow fast...you've no pudge to hide it!! Lol I'm already starting out 30 lbs overweight...my own fault but still sad :(

In my experience, I can't get my pants buttoned by 9 weeks...even with my DD! This time (technically 3rd pregnancy but the 2nd to go this far) I'm in maternity pants already and I know from experience my bump won't go away...it'll just get bigger! Every one is different! If your doctor isn't concerned, you shouldn't be either! :)  I have an u/s scheduled for tomorrow, so I'll tell my boss tomorrow afternoon (12 weeks).  Though I'm positive she's been staring at my gut for weeks!!!!!

Dont be embarrassed, embrace it :) wait til you feel the baby moving...such agreat feeling :)

  • First, don't feel bad. Everyone is right in that it's not technically "baby" in there. However that doesn't mean your not showing. The term as I see it means the outside world can see that you are pregnant, your belly "shows". So whether it's gas, a baby, water, whatever, it's showing to the world that something is growing in there!
This is my 5th pg. I'm 5 foot 10 and not remotely overweight. And you know what? I'm noticeably pregnant. It's a combo of my body haveing done this before, my personal body shape, and yes first tri bloat. But it's not going away, and since I count calories I know I'm not overdoing it, so I bought some stretchy pants and just go with it.

  • the showing is most likely just bloat. I just now have a little belly coming in and I'm 11 weeks but I'm on pregnancy #3.

14lbs does seem like a bit much for 11 weeks. I'd look at the food you are eating every couple of hours and see if maybe you can make it healthier?

  • Body changes are going to keep happening.  They are normal and everyone is different!~!!  Relax and enjoy that baby growing inside of you.  I am a slim person and had a flat stomach till about last week b/c i went weeks without eating or barely eating b/c i had horrible m/s which lasted all day.  Like i said everyone is different and don't let anyone make you feel bad about it.  Good luck with your pregnancy!

    And you win.

  • I feel like a balloon too. : )  It's bloat and gas.... but I'm going shopping this weekend for some cute comfy dresses and loose fitting clothes. You may want to do the same thing. Dressing to fit your body changes may make you feel better about yourself. : ) And don't let the crazy Pregger-She-Hulks get to you. We are all a bunch of hormonal maniacs right now.

  • I gained 15 pounds in my first trimester with DS (I went from a AA to a DD).  I ate healthy and didn't increase my calories at all.  Some women's bodies just react differently to being pregnant and that changes from pregnancy to pregnancy.  Now, with #2 I have only gained 3 pounds in about 14 weeks.

By 12 weeks with DS there was no hiding my pregnancy, there was a definite baby belly.  I just got that yesterday at 13w3d with #2.

  • Love how snotty the forums get. Everyone's a damn expert! It may be bloat but if everyone can tell you are pregnant at say 11 weeks it gets frustrating telling people you are actually only 11 weeks. (wow is it twins!?) (you got really big) (I don't think that baby will stay in there until March) (and my personal fav from my own mother, well it's your own fault for not losing the first baby's weight... yea thanks Mom love you too) Ignore the comments, it's hard and think about that new baby.

  • If your doc's not worried, then you shouldn't worry.  During my first pregnancy, I gained 10lbs in my first trimester and none in my second.  I went from eating super healthy to eating pasta everyday just so that I could function at my job.  Your body will regulate itself, especially if you were fit to start off.  I exercised through my last pregnancy, and although I gained 45+lbs, I was back in my old jeans 2 weeks after I gave birth and ended up weighing less than I started.

  • Don't let all these negative posts get to you. I showed way early with my first, too, and I ended up being huge by the end. I gained a normal amount--30 pounds--but some combination of my body type and where exactly I gained it made me look much bigger than most full-term women. I was a little self-conscious about it because by 6 months people thought I was about ready to deliver, and by 7 months total strangers regularly asked me if I was having twins, but looking back on it now I'm actually really hoping it's the same way this time. You only get to do this a few times in your life, so really revel in your body right now, even if IS all gas. :)

  • I am showing too.  I will be 11 weeks tomorrow.  I have a small, athletic build and now I have this belly that popped out.  It is so hard to hide it.  I live in Florida and have been wearing a jacket.

  • I know I'm not as far along as you, but I've gained pretty much no weight (some mornings I'm a pound or so heavier, but I think it's mostly water and constipation).... but my stomach is so much flabbier/puffier than it was before. I know it's not "baby," but I already feel gross. I've pretty much just stopped wearing jeans at this point.

And tact too I imagine. There is a difference between being rude and "telling the truth" and having tact while telling the truth. But I don't expect rude people to know the difference.

Youre an interesting person. This is a pregnancy and baby forum, sugar coating isn't necessary at all. But neither is ignorance. The women on here that answered the actual question in my original post clearly weren't sugar coating anything.  But they were supportive and polite. Again, you can tell the truth with tact and politeness without sugar coating. And AGAIN I wouldn't expect rude people like yourself to know the difference.

Also do you even know what sugar coating means? It doesn't even apply to this post at all.
