LO sleeps best on me

I also posted this on the 03 month board:

I feel like a horrible mother. In complete desperation for sleep at 1 this morning, I fell asleep on the couch with DS on my chest. I'm mad at myself because 1 I know it's not safe, I did sleep right against the couch so I wouldn't roll and DS wouldn't fall off and 2 this is a huge step backwards as the goal is for him to sleep in his crib by midOctober when I go back to work. On a good note, DS slept 3 hours straight and slept through his 2 a.m. feeding which I heard was the first nighttime feeding to elimate to encourage sleeping through the night. My ? Is what can I do to help him sleep as good ad he does on my chest? My ped won't let him sleep on his stomach but him sleeping so well makes me think that is how he wants to sleep. Any advice would be great!

  • All babies sleep better on their stomachs. But it's still not ok. A lot of people are raving about the rock and play have you tried that? Or try letting him sleep in the swing? For now try what works. Transition to the crib is not impossible by October he's still little that hearing your heartbeat will put himto sleep. You can look into a sound machine that has a heartbeat.

  • We just started the rock n play Monday night and only a very slight improvement. We have also tried his crib, bassinet, pnp, cosleeper, and his swing. I'm going to have to find a sound machine with a heartbeat. Thanks!

  • Do you have an iPhone or something?

Download the ap "white noise baby" it has a picture of a baby with a white towel on its head. The Doppler or car one work amazingly at calming my baby

  • I've done this multiple times since Evie was born, lots of times not intentionally - she does not sleep well at night. From suggestions here, I'll be buying the Rock & Play today to see how that goes.

I think we're in the same boat, keep us updated!

  • DS always falls asleep that way and after 20 minutes, I put him in his bassinet and he's fine. You're not a bad mom...just a tired one! I've done it before too.

  • The fact that they sleep better on their stomachs is the problem - they sleep so deeply that it can interfere with their breathing.

You are not a bad mom! No one does things by the book 100% of the time. Does he wake up if you wait 30 min. before putting him down?

  •  My daughter sleeps great in the rock n play, but didn't in her bassinet. Since we want her to transition to her crib by November, her pediatrician suggested putting her in the bassinet during naps and letting her to continue to sleep in the rock n play at night. The rationale being that it's easier to deal with the fussing during the day rather than in the middle of the night.  After two days of this, she now sleeps comfortably in her bassinet all night. Maybe try putting him in wherever you prefer he sleep during naps?
  • We rock for 30 min, put him in the RnP and 30 min later is up. Sometimes wr can get 2 hours in, We started putting him in the pnp or crib during the day to help with the transition.
