I pumped today for the first time! LO is 4 weeks and I go back to work at 12 weeks. I got a PISA and pumped after our morning feed. I only got one ounce but hopefully as I pump more I will produce more. I also got some mothers milk tea.
One question: after pumping my nips felt tingly for 15 minutes or so. Does this mean I had the pump too high or do I just need to get used to the pump? TIA!

Re: First pump!!
Congrats! Since you're pumping on top of feeding, you'll get less than when you are back at work and pumping to replace a feeding. Are you having supply issues? Are you drinking the tea for a reason already? Just be careful not to go crazy and create an oversupply for yourself.
I remember my breasts feeling weird at first after I started to pump too. Remember, you don't need to crank the pump all the way up to get milk. In fact, you can often get more on a lower setting. You can play with the speed and strength of the pump and eventually you'll learn what your body responds to. You can also use some lanolin on your nipples and the breast shields to add some lubrication during pumping and that may help.
1 ounce is fantastic for your first time!
My nipples hurt like heck after pumping at first - and they never hurt from breastfeeding. When I talked to my doctor about it at my 6 week checkup she said that was normal and it would pass. It did.
I'll try the pump on a slower setting tomorrow. I didn't realize how impossible it would be to adjust the pump without a hands free setup!

You'll learn how to hold both with one hand, I even got so I could hold the bottles with my knees eat a sandwich and text all at once. It gets easier!
With your knees? No way!! I can't even reach the bottles with my knees. Haha. I think im going to have to fashion a hands free bra.
