11dpiui..still bfn.

Well today's test I immediately saw the indent line (which I rarely see before taking it apart and studying it)..bright and shining white.  It was like it was pointing and laughing at me.  I have a blood test Friday, but I am obviously out this month.  This is the year mark of trying (but more like 16 cycles).  I don't know how to cope with this.  My doc recommends 3 iuis and then moving on the IVF..so the next cycle will be the 3rd iui.  We can't afford IVF (my insurance doesn't cover it)..and I don't know what to do.  Since I have never had issues before, should I find a different RE?  Maybe get a second opinion?  I have nothing wrong w/ me and neither does my husband.  I am diagnosed with hostile cervical mucus b/c of one post coital test...but the more I read about it, the more I see that post coital tests aren't always accurate.  Maybe there's something more going on...?  What are the thoughts of those with either fertility issues that are unknown or with "cervical problems"?  All I know is that all these meds have done me more harm than good.  :(

Re: 11dpiui..still bfn.

  • no real advice, but i am kinda in the same place - our RE recommended starting with IUI then moving on to IVF.  we haven't done anything yet and its a big choice - our insurance doesn't pay for either.  In my opinion though its always good to get a second opinion!

  • Have you been taking an oral medication + trigger + IUI? If so it might be worth talking to your doctor about trying an injectable cycle or two before moving on to IVF.

We have always been diagnosed as "unexplained" infertility too but were blessed to get pregnant with DD on our second medicated cycle with Femera the first time around. This time we just aren't having any success and are moving forward with IVF in September, but have tried Femera + Ovidrel + IUI (4 cycles) as well as Follistim + Ovidrel + IUI (1 cycle). I completely understand wanting to see all of your options before moving on with IVF (especially being 100% OOP). I would talk to your doctor and if all else fails a second opinion can never hurt.

    Good luck!

  • First we did clomid + trigger + iui.  The clomid made me crazy and caused crazy cysts.  I've never even had a cyst..(that I knew of).

We just did letrozole (much better I think) + follistim + trigger + iui..I had 5 mature follies...so I really thought that this would be the one.  Obviously not.  Next on the list is to do the same thing, but daily injections.  I don't think thats necessary for me.  This cycle gave me 5 follies and if I have any more then I couldn't even do the iui.  I'll probably repeat what we just did and see what happens.  Hopefully I don't have any cysts or anything.  I just can't help but wonder if there is something simple causing me to have "hostile cervial mucus".  I am obviously no doctor, but I would be pretty upset if I paid all this money and just had some sort of infection.  I think on this next cycle I'm also going to do acupuncture (I did it when I was on a break cycle and it obviously didn't get me pregnant...but it definitly made my stress level better).  I'm going to try to do some diet changes too.  Everything I read says dairy is a big no no for ph balance.  Ugh...I love dairy...but if cutting that out can get me preggers then I'll do it!

If the next cycle doesn't work then maybe I'll try a 4th iui.  My doc is very adament about not going to 4...but my insurance covers up to a certain number of iuis, so it makes sense to keep trying at least for now..but I'll probably try a different doctor if it doesn't work this next time.  Ya never know!
