I am already thinking of what method of BC I want after this baby is born. I need to do some research anyway (I haven't used birth control in a long time), but I'd like to hear from you ladies before I begin my internet searching. So, what BC method do you use? Pros? Cons? TIA!
Re: What kind of BC do you use?
Honestly, the idea of not having a period or having one like once a year kind of freaks me out a little bit.
I'm thinking of using Mirena, but the thought of something hanging out in my ute weirds me out too! Haha. Perhaps I am doomed to use condoms...
Does anyone have Nuvaring? I could be okay with that, I think. If you have it, do you like it? Can you feel when its in, or can you feel it (or DH) during sex? Everything about it seems good to me, except I don't want to be walking around feeling like I need to adjust my vagina ring haha!
ETA:
Got an NSFW call out, sorry y'all.
My answer was condoms.

This!
LOL, yes I do this. I take an HPT (wondfo strip) and check for strings every month on the first of the month. My DH thinks I'm crazy but those strips are pretty cheap so I don't mind. My OB also looks at me crazy when I go in and say, well I took an HPT and it was negative 10 days ago. Oh well, I don't mind people thinking I'm crazy.
Haha I think I would have to stock up on some wondfos, because I would probably do the same thing.
I mean, I have a little while after baby comes, and when it comes down to it, I know how to chart, so there is that. I just know that we definitely can't afford any oopses.
This is what we (I) did for a long time to avoid, and then to conceive. I like it because I like knowing what my body is doing. At this point, though, after 2 babies, I need to be very cautious until we are ready for #3. I just don't want to have to think about my BC for a while.
I'm on my 3rd month with NuvaRing & I really like it so far. I love that I don't have to remember to take a pill everyday. I can't feel it at all & SO said he can't feel it either. TMI warning: It started to slip out once while I was pooping, which I had previously read can happen. After that I try to make sure it is farther inside & I haven't had an issue since.
Twice now AF hasn't shown up until 3 days after removal but I've heard that isn't uncommon. I haven't noticed any side-effects.
Only con I can think of is the price but that may vary depending on your health plan coverage.
Hth!
ETA: I originally wanted an IUD after DS was born but since I never dilated past (possibly even to) 1 cm, my OB advised against it since having it placed would have been a b*tch.
LMAO! Yeah pretty much. But seriously, its been good for me.
Teehee. Yeah, I heard that method is the most reliable. You must have been one of the 50% for whom that method failed?
LOL. My DH would probably not be on board with this method. 100% of the time, it works every time.
LOL, that one is my DH's least favorite also.
sometimes bottle of wine=abstinence FAIL.
I just love being apart of statistics.
Mirena.
Got it at my 6 week pp check up. Easy, easy insertion.
Pros: no thinking about BC at all
Cons: cost ($$) but it is one time and I'm sure many benefit packages would cover; bled on and off for many weeks after it was inserted (which bummed me out as I was breastfeeding and expecting NO period for months)
I like it and will have it replaced when my DS turns 5.
ETA: I get regular periods with my Mirena
Before getting pregnant, we used either the pill, or, when I really wasn't feeling like being on the pill, condoms.
Since we found out I have clotting factors in my blood, I can't do the pill anymore, which is fine with me. We're using condoms until hubby gets the snip (this September) and tests clean.
Using the pull n pray method is how we got DD.
But I would totally be okay if I were to get pregnant again.
We also use condoms and NFP.
Edit: why won't it let me use parenthesis for a wink face?
Brackets for the outside of any -face, not parenthesis
