pregnancy pillows?

I am SO exhausted today. All week I haven't been able to sleep, due to be uncomfortable. I toss and turn all night long and today its just got the best of me. Its making me so much more emotional. I woke up crying, drove to work crying, swallowing back tears right now. I just want to sleep!!! I used to sleep on my back, but being pregnant we can't anymore. Even if I wanted to, it just hurts my back. Anyone else completely uncomfortable when you sleep? I'm freaking out because isn't the 2nd trimester supposed to be the most comfortable, because we're not so big yet? If its so bad already, what its gonna be like when i'm bigger? :S
Anyways, thats my vent, i'm pretty much gonna have an awful day today. What i'm really wondering is if anyone is trying these pregnancy pillows, do they work? Is it worth me picking one up after work?

Re: pregnancy pillows?

  • I have had the Snoogle since I was 11-12 weeks.  I love it and don't think I could sleep without it.

  • So sorry :(  I have had a pregnancy pillow for sometime now. I am 21 weeks and I sleep with it every night and it does seem to help when insomnia hasn't come to visit me. I am a stomach sleeper so besides the LO letting me know, the pillow really assist with keeping me off my belly. I say go and get you one today!

Everyone raves about the Snoogle, but I don't see how it would help people who prefer to sleep on their back, like OP & myself? Wouldn't you just end up rolling away from the Snoogle to get to your back?

Because of that thought, I've been looking into some of the U-shape pregnancy pillows out there, which prevent you from rolling to either side. Haven't actually tried one yet though. How are you other back-sleepers out there dealing?

    Dear Baby Pacheco...
  • I purchased the Snoogle, but seem to sleep better without it... maybe it's that our bed is so comfy, but I just don't like the top portion of it - could've just started using a pillow between my knees.

It is supposed to be positioned behind you with the pillow running from the back of your head all the way to the part that curves to go between your legs, you can't roll on your back without rolling onto a huge pillow - I doubt I'd be able to do it without hurting myself at this point in my pregnancy to be honest.

  • I'm sorry you're so uncomfortable!

I'm a toss and turn sleeper, and found that the snoogle basically just inhibited my movements and woke me up constantly.  It has worked well for many women though and it can't hurt to try.

I also generally sleep on my back, and thus far I haven't had problems still doing that, but I went out and got a pregnancy wedge so that I can sleep on my side as well but without having a full body pillow in my way.  If your sleep style sounds anything like mine, maybe you want to give that a try?

Ohhh okay, that makes more sense. In the picture I saw originally the person was sleeping facing the opposite direction, with the open side to their back.

FTR, I was just looking around on Amazon & noticed that Snoogle now makes a version that goes all the way around the body for just a few dollars more, so I think I'm going to try that out: https://www.amazon.com/Leachco-Snoogle-Contoured-Pillow-Ivory/dp/B000F1MBQ0/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1346259556&sr=8-5&keywords=snoogle

Does the wedge just sit right under your tummy?
Thank you ladies for your answers. I'm going to go to the store and check out different types. I'm going to check out the snoogle, but i'm scared its just gonna be to bulky and just annoy me :S. I've tried a pillow in between my leg and that didn't help. At this point i'm willing to try anything!

  • I am also a back sleeper, and trying to adjust to side-sleeping is driving me insane. I have slept like crap for the past couple nights. We have a regular body pillow, which I tried, but that didn't work at all. DH ordered me a Snoogle and I can't wait to get it. I'm going to put it behind me to prevent me from rolling onto my back and see how that goes. I read something about sleeping on your back can slow down blood-flow to your uterus, so now I'm scared to sleep on my back even though it's still comfortable for me. I hope my pillow gets here sooner than later so I can get some good sleep.

I am a stomach/side sleeper so I keep it like the picture so I can't roll onto my stomach with the pillow in front of me.. but if I was a back sleeper I would use it the other way.

I read that in my book too! Maybe thats part of the reason I can't sleep, suddenly i'm worried about being on my back.

  • I had a Snoogle when I was pregnant with DS and I loved it. I am a back sleeper and it really helped. The only downside was it took up so much room in the bed, even with a king bed. This time I bought one of the mini Snoogle pillows and while I love that I can use my own pillow and it doesn't take up as much room, I'm still having a hard time not rolling on to my back. I've only had it for a week so I'm still getting used to it. I would recommend the full Snoogle though, it was great. I wish I had kept mine!

  • I have the Snoogle and the Cozy. I like the Snoogle better but both are nice. I have really bad pubic Symphesis separation and it is really painful and my hip has been hurting. It feels better when I sleep though which is a little backwards and I credit that to the pillow. I still have to turn over several times in the night and preposition but before I would wake up in severe pain. I very much recommend it if you are really in that much pain and if you can't sleep. No sure if anyone else has mentioned it but I suggest trying a recliner until you get your pillow in.

  • For the most part I am not having problems sleeping yet. I still mainly sleep on my back. Baby continues to kick strong and her heartbeat at MWs yesterday was 160, so I am not concerned about lack of blood flow. My understanding is it will be uncomfortable for you, before it will be for baby.
Anyways, when I do sleep on my side I put a regular pillow between my knees, mainly because I have a lot of back pain on the right and found this helps.
I also bought a body pillow but haven't used it yet.

  • Hello,

I am a back sleeper and I bought the snoogle.  If you position it right, you can kind of lean over a bit on the pillow (my doc says put a pillow on my right side)  then you can sleep more comfortably but are still on your side.  I use it in different positions in order to help me sleep and it has made a big difference!

I tried sleeping with it in front of me to stop me from rolling onto stomach when I first bought it but my left arm would fall asleep so I was frustrated and looked at the bag it came in only to see the woman had it behind her running alongside her back - which made me feel stupid... no wonder I kept waking up throughout the night with the painful/tingly feeling!!
