Re: CPW: Make up

  • Very rarely do I wear make up, only because I hate taking it off(mascara mostly). My idea of putting make up on is a small amount of foundation(maybe) and some mascara, which always ends up under my eyes the next day because I forgot that I actually had it on.

  • I voted 'pretty much everyday'.  But I really don't wear much and most people have no idea I wear makeup.  I usually moisturize my face, then brush some light mineral powder all over.  *Sometimes* I will put some mascara on, but only rarely.  That's about it.
  • Mascara all the time and a little powder since I have pregnancy acne.
  • I voted for everyday.

I do wear some everyday (unless I am home sick or something). It can range from moisturizer, chapstick and mascara to "full face" (foundation, blush, eye shadow, gloss and mascara)

  • I use very little make up during the normal week (maybe a little blush and chapstick)...but put make up on when going out with hubby, friends, etc... for dinner or get-togethers.

  • I'm a special snowflake on this one.

I only wear it to work when I know there's a big meeting or I'll be making a first impression (like sitting on an interview or getting a visit from a commissioner or something). I always wear it to business meetings outside of work (DH and I have a few different entrepreneurial endeavors outside of our full time jobs) and whenever I go out with my friends. However, by 'going out' I mean actually going out. If I'm just hanging at their house then I'll probably skip it Smile

Please pardon any typos -- I'm typically bumping from my phone

  • I don't think I understand how to properly apply makeup, and because of this when I do put it on I feel like I look ridiculous. People have helped me do my makeup and I have looked pretty darn good, so I know it isn't that I look bad with it on, but when I try to do what they showed me how to do, I look awful. I have decided that unless I think I have to wear it for whatever reason, it's not worth the effort cuz I'll just look dumb. It's kinda sad.

  • I'm a hooker bordering on drag queen!

I wish I looked presentable w/o makeup, but I don't.  So, I just embrace my love of make up!

    Ditto.

A couple years ago, I spent a month rafting and trekking in remote parts of Nepal.  No electricity, no phone, no running water, camping only... and I wore eyeliner and mascara every day.

Part of my birth plan includes distracting myself by doing my makeup in early labor.

  • Until I got pregnant I only wore lip gloss, eye liner and mascara....I find I look so tired lately I invested in foundation and eye shadow too!

I think we could be friends :)

I went backpacking in Thailand and still had my waterproof mascara and some chapstick with gloss on.

I also have my makeup hospital bag mentally packed, I just want enough to look pretty and refreshed. If I have to "get ready" between contractions I will.

  • I looooove makeup!!! I try to keep it looking natural-ish for the most part but when I get a chance to really do it up I go to town. Love it!! And I do wear it every day.

Same here.  There has also been some internal debate about whether or not it'll be safe to use a flat iron between contractions, especially if I spend a lot of time in the shower.  I have a huge jewfro, and I'm not sure I want the 60's hippie-mama look for my home birth pictures.

Now I am pretty much opposite. I have stick straight hair that looks crazy when I wake up (flat in spots, sticking up in others...) I would really like some time to shower and blow dry my hair so it looks natural and not done.

You are having a HB? (kind of jealous) I vote go all out hippie style! I am aiming for a NB in the hospital, couldnt talk DH into a HB ("we dont even know what we are doing...")

Yep, HB all the way.  I'm very low risk, and very active, so I'm praying for a complication-free L&D.

I'm sooo excited about it.  It's been fun getting the house ready... buying everything on the midwife's list, planning my music and what kind of food I'll want around...

DH and I both are averse to the hospital route, but we have good advocates (and are both willful as f**k) in case we end up having to transfer.  I want nothing to do with drugs, no cutting me anywhere!, skin-on-skin with Bean, a delayed cord-cutting, delayed antibiotic ointment on the eyelids, etc.

I also just really want to be able to have a dance-party by the fire place in our living room!

Are you personalizing your hospital experience?  Making sure you can do what you want (as much as possible)... all the positions you want to try, etc?  Do you have a midwife or an OB?

  • I don't wear make up unless it's some really fancy event (like my own wedding :)). I feel like when I put it on, it doesn't look good and makes my nose stand out. Maybe I'm just putting it on wrong or something but even when someone else does it, it looks like that.

Also I'd be inclined to wear mascara but I've yet to find a brand that doesn't make my eyes itch. And putting on any kind of liner (or mascara) makes my eyes get all red and tear up. I don't think I was made for make up :)

I have an OB who I trust like crazy. I really feel he will let me do as I want-- with in reason. One of the nurses (I hope I get her) is a MW and my sis is a nurse at the hospital (small local hospital) and assures me I will be happy with my experience and my nurses.

My OB is also the OB to the MWs in town that do HBs- they call him to meet them at the hospital if needed and they transfer patients to him when someone is not a good fit for a HB.

Now, that being said- there is a slim slim chance I wont get my OB, but I am told the other OBs in his practice are very similar to him.

Your HB sounds great, I cant wait to hear about later. I would like to do that for the 2nd one.

Sounds like you've got the best possible care lined up!

  • I used to literally not step outside without being super done up and pretty, then that slowly turned into just some foundation and mascara and eyeliner, then not even bothering with the hair, then just mascara, now I'm lucky if I remember to put that on!

It's pretty sad. I'm just too tired, I'd much rather sleep for the extra ten minutes Crying

I actually sell Mary Kay, and get it half off and everything, and still just don't use it really. It's pretty pathetic.
