  For me, the deal breaker is if a group denies me working with an MFM then I don't want to work with the doctors. Does that sound unreasonable? I feel like I'm starting all over again, but I feel like it'll benefit the babies and myself if I try to find the best care possible. Since I haven't had to do this in a long time, what are some things that you suggest that I ask and look for with a new practice?

  Maybe it's possible that you could find a new OB who will refer you to an MFM to completely take over your care. Some MFMs (like mine) also deliver, and you could avoid having to see two doctors. Best wishes that you find an excellent doctor (or 2!) either way!

  I think that would be a red flag for me definitely.  My OB was more than happy to turn most of my care over to the MFM group.  And I definitely trusted MFM info over the twin info provided by my OB.  If I was in your situation, I'd probably start with figuring out which hospital you'd like to deliver at (hopefully one with a decent NICU just in case).  Then I'd determine the MFMs that are affiliated with the hospital (at several of the big OB hospitals in our area, there is just one big MFM group).  While you'll likely need an OB rec to see an MFM, I'd call the MFM office to see if they recommend any OBs, particularly those that have dealt with your particular issues.  Good luck!

  I completely agree. I am also having great (and i mean great)difficulty finding a single ob practice that will refer me to an mfm....i am.looking.for practice #3 now and i plan to keep going until i find someone willing to listen/work.with me. I hope you have better luck than i have been having....fwiw, everyone(the ladies on here and another message board, my very reasonable dh, a hb midwife i.consulted with, an er doctor i randomly met, my insurance company, friends) thinks that persevering and getting an ob that listens to my concerns is paramount.....so.it is NOT the rantings and ravings of a doubly pregnant crazy lady.   I ended up getting officially fed up with the sub-par care I was receiving at my original OB at about 17 weeks. I work at the hospital I eventually delivered at and started asking around to the people that work on the mother baby unit which doctors they prefer working with. I HIGHLY recommend this approach. In my experience the people that work at the hospital have the very best insider information and insight into who will give you the best care possible. Also, when eventually calling the new practices, just ask about their policies on referral to MFMs. When I called the mother baby unit the nurses I spoke to were so kind and more than willing to give me advice on who was the best doctors and who to stay away from. I imagine this would be the case at nearly every hospital.
  

  All in all, switching doctors was the VERY best thing I did for both myself and my babies throughout my pregnancy. Good luck!

  IVF #1 w/ ICSI: ER 3/12 18 eggs retrieved 12 eggs fertilized; ET 3/17 1 transferred 3 frozen- BFN

  IVF #2 w/ ICSI: ER 5/8 9 eggs retrieved 8 eggs fertilized; ET 5/13 2 transferred 1 frozen; BETA #1: 1,197; U/S scheduled for 6/11-TWINS!

  I would trust your gut instinct and switch.  I got lucky in that my OBGYN's office has a lot of experience delivering twins.  My dr told me that I would be seeing an MFM for my anatomy scan before I even knew what an MFM was.  

  I agree with pp.  Pick a hospital with a great NICU.  Then get a referral from them for OBGYN's who deliver twins.  Before you commit, I would tell them you are high risk and ask them what their policy is regarding that.  My dr's office co-manages my health care with an MFM.  Fortunately, my babies are doing great and I've only had to see the MFM once.  Yet, I trust that if there's any reason, my OB wouldn't hesitate to send me back to the MFM.

  I don't think you're being unreasonable at all. You have to be your own (and your babies') advocate in this situation. If my obgyn refused to refer me to an MFM while I was pregnant with twins (AND I had a history of problems), I would question his/her knowledge regarding multiple pregnancies.
