Ok, so DS has been going to the same daycare since he was 3 months (July 2011) - he moved up to the Tots room last Monday (as in over a week ago) but had also spent a couple days there before the move. Last week he did great - seemed to have so much fun with the bigger space and new toys. But this week, he has been going crazy when I leave. He is screaming and crying and reaching out for me. His teacher had to take him from my arms this morning in order for me to leave.
So, my question.... is he trying to tell me something, or is this normal for a 16 month old to go through? I thought about having DH drop him off (he does pick up... and he said he is always fine then) and see if he does the same, or if its just for me.
Re: Daycare Behavior Question
ditto - normal.
Just do drop off quick and leave. You can try prepping him a little bit on the way to daycare and just remind him what's going to happen and how you will see him at home later.
The same exact thing happend to us when Evie transitioned to the First Steps room from Babyland. The first week things went so well and then for the next 3 weeks it was a crying fit every morning. I think there were two main things that were driving this behavior. 1. the loss of the morning nap, which Evie wasn't quite ready for AND more importantly, 2. there was a new child in the program that was having very rough mornings.
Syhe was sleepy, emotional and other children were crying... I don't think that it was a coincidence that Evie and the other child calmed down in the mornings at around the same time.
I totally agree with LLLR, get in and out of there as quickly as possible. It is also a good idea to have your husband try the drop off. A change in the routine, might help.
Good Luck, I know it is hard. This should only last a couple weeks.
