Today's Therapy

Yesterday V had a 7 hour long doctor's appointment at a university hospital.  We were seeing a specialist about her vision (she has albinism).  She had to have her eyes dilated and also had to be sedated for one exam, which meant two tries for an IV that DH had to help hold her down for.  It sucked.  The IV was the worst part and seeing her knocked out from the sedation was no fun either.  The results were not great either.  It is likely that she is legally blind, but that isn't really the whole picture.  Because of her condition, the structures of her eyes are not properly formed so glasses won't really help for correction (they may help some, but won't really help acuity).  There are other issues with her vision as well because of differences in the way her vision has developed.  Anyway, it should have been what we were expecting, but was still difficult to hear.  You really wouldn't know she was visually impaired to watch her play so I think we were hoping for better news.  The good news is with these results we can bump up her early intervention services.

I head back to teaching tomorrow, so today was my last day of summer vacation.  It has been so nice being home with V.  We palyed and took it easy in our sweats today.  My therapy for the day was my first clothing sewing project.  I made her a skirt.  Picture is in siggy, not sure how to PIP.  Anyway I had fun picking out the fabric.  She loves owls' big eyes:)

Thanks for listening.  I haven't really had a chance to talk about the appointment with anyone other than DH, and it's nice to get it out there.

  • I'm sorry you didn't get the news that you wanted about V's vision. I am happy to hear that she will be able to get more early intervention help. Good luck going back to work. Hugs.

Oh and your skirt is so cute!

  • Oh wow, that wasn't the best of news for you. You said she plays like she doesn't have a vision impairment though, so maybe the prognosis is better than what you are hearing right now.

    Love the skirt, great job!

  • I'm so sorry it wasn't the news you wanted to hear.  How disappointing.  But it is good the early intervention stuff will get bumped up.  And she seems to be so happy otherwise!

And great job on the skirt!  It's so cute!!

  • That must be so difficult to hear, but it sounds like V isn't letting that slow her down.  Kids are so resilient.  Big hugs.

  • I am so sorry. Children are so adaptable. This may be alot harder for you than it will be for her.

Hopefully it all turns out better than they think right now. and that skirt is very cute.
