Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Those of you that use Alimentum

Did you change LO's formula eventually? Or do you plan to? DD has been on Alimentum since she was 2 months. Lately she is eating (formula) every 2hrs (7-8oz) and I can only assume that the Alimentum isn't holding her long enough now. I just dread changing the formula at this point thinking about how the first 2 months of her life were rough because of reflux and formula. WDYT? Should I change? I will be asking my Pedi before doing anything but I just wanted to get some advice from you guys:) TIA!

Re: Those of you that use Alimentum

  • My DD2 is on Alimnetum.  She has a milk and soy allergy, had reflux (we are assuming it has resolved, she doesn't have any clinical signs) and has a newly diagnosed swallowing dysfunction.

DD2 saw an allergist at 6 months who gave us the okay to switch to a sensitive formula at 7 months.  We tried it and with in 20 minutes she was projectile vomiting and had diarrhea for 3 days.

I have not tried again and she now has a swallowing dysfunction we are dealing with, but before all this our pedi and allergist said to try every month to see if she'd grown out of the allergy.

ETA: If you do decide to try regular formula, buy the "on the go" packets.  You can make one bottle and not worry about tossing a whole can if it doesn't work out.

  • My DD was on Nutramigen since about 2 months old. We switched her around 7 months, slowly, to Soy. She has done really well and is fully adjusted and now on only all soy formula.

  • DS is on Alimentum. He still has some reflux issues. His doctor hasn''t mentioned changing as it seems to be the best plan for him right now. He does seem less satisfied with just the formula nowadays so we've added oatmeal and are starting solids. That seems to keep him happy.

I do wish Alimentum wasn't so expensive though! Yikes!

  • Hi.  Peeping over from 9-12 mo board.  Our son is 11.5mos and has been on Alimentum since 2mos as well.  Protein sensitivity.  I never switched him because I just wasn't brave enough. Didn't want to go back to having a miserable baby.  We're now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel as we slowly switch him to cow's milk.  So far so good.

The Alimentum definitely goes through them faster.  Do you feed solids?  Maybe increase the solids a bit.  Add in another feeding or two.  That's how we got by the last few months.  And is she 8mos?  You could start giving some snacks too like puffs, mum mums, or other food for snacks.
