I just thought I would tell you all that Grant is going to get evaluated for developmental issues on 9/11/12...
I have been really busy trying to keep the house together while working, so I haven't been on here as much. But when I do get on here, I get really sad because Grant seems so far behind.
His tummy time involves him laying flat on his stomach, tilting his head to the side and looking at me then fussing. He was doing better a few months ago than he is now. He isn't holding things in his hands, and he isn't reaching for things. He doesn't sit up on his own. While he babbles a lot and does lots of sounds, he isn't saying anything yet. I was trying to tell myself that he would be an early talker to try and make myself feel better about him being slow physically, but now it's clear that he won't be.
And because he is on the small side (13lbs 12oz at his 6 month check up, 1% tile) in the back of my head I think that his size is the reason he is developing slower than everyone else... and blame myself for not feeding him well enough...
Everyone's babies look so young child-like and mine still looks pretty much the same as he did at 3 months.
Re: Trying to stay positive
Do not blame yourself. Everyone's children develop at different rates and babies come in all shapes and sizes.
I hope the appointment goes well and they can give you ways to get him back on track, if they even think there is a problem. Good luck!
You are doing an awesome job mama! Our friend has her son working with a physical therapist twice a week because he had something where his head would always tilt one way. I'm not exactly sure what it was (had a long name), but this was also to prevent him from having a helmet too. She said ever since they started the PT, he started rolling and becoming more active. Even if things aren't moving along as fast as you thought - that doesn't mean there is anything wrong - or that it was anything you did. Maybe their solution will kick spark something in him and he'll take off like a race horse...literally!
DD doesn't roll yet either - btw. I don't think she ever will either.

Yes, stay positive! The evaluation will tell you a lot. And if there are issues it is good that you will find out early on.
My son had delays at age three( speech& gross motor) and he was caught up in many of the areas in less than a year.
Keep us updated!
Oh you poor momma! First of all, it's not your fault. Please don't think that way! Kids are so resilient, but I know how very scary this must be. Keep us in the loop.
Thinking of you!
For example when Kevin was 4.5 months old when he got his 2 bottom teeth, at Gymboree a mama of an older baby was upset that her dd still didn't have any. I said don't feel bad he isn't rolling yet.
He has torticollis which PP mentioned something about. That has somewhat effected his milestones. But PT and Gymboree have been a big help.
Good luck it will all turn out just fine :
Don't beat yourself up, you're doing a great job by recognizing he needs help and getting it. He probably just needs to build his muscles and it has nothing about his size. I have an old classmate whose daughter is two months older than ours and was about your sons size at 6 months and she was crawling at 5.5 months so don't beat yourself up thinking that your feeding schedule has affected him.
Remember that every kid is different and sometimes people need help with things that others do naturally. Just like many of us needed help conceiving while others got pregnant in one try. Some things we just can't control, so just stay strong!
Don't beat yourself up, you're doing everything right. The best thing you could possibly do is get to the bottom of it, which is exactly what you're doing by scheduling that appointment.
Babies all develop at different rates for different reasons. He'll be fine. Deep breaths.
