big sister gift for a 3 1/2 year old

DH and I want to get DD something bigger as a big sister gift from the new baby.  we were originally thinking of a play kitchen, since we just moved and finally have the space for it, but I'm not sure she'd play with it much since she's already 3 1/2.

So 2 questions here:

1.  would a 3 1/2 year old enjoy a play kitchen and is it worth it considering how she probably won't play with it for more than a year or so?

2.  can you think of something else we could get her?

Re: big sister gift for a 3 1/2 year old

  • My 4 year old still likes her play kitchen. I'm going to put together a bag for my daughter. I have a Big Sister shirt and was going to get a stamping set/art stuff since that is what she likes to do. I thought she would play with it at the hospital too when she comes to visit. I'm thinking of getting her a Big sister necklace too. I have a hand stamped necklace with her name and her birthstone and she loves it. I want to get her one of her own.

  • My 3.5 yo loves her play kitchen. I have also read the idea of a camera for LO to take pics also.

  • DD occasionally plays with her play kitchen. We bought her a camera when DD #2 was born and she loved it and still plays with it.
  • When our LO comes along, my DD will be 3.5 as well. I'm planning on giving her a bag with a kid camera, a few "Big Sis" books, maybe something like play-doh or an art set she can use at the hospital, and a Big Sis shirt (she already has one, but a different one). I am also going to take her to the store before the baby is born and let her pick out something (outfit and toy) to "give" the baby at the hospital when he is born.
