Would you paint your LO's room..

..if you knew you were planning on buying a house in about 2-3 years and moving?

We're temporarily upgrading to a larger apartment and planning on buying a house in a few years when we have a bit more money in savings. It seems kind of pointless to paint when I'm thinking logically, but I still want to paint a nursery for some weird (probably nesting-related)reason.

Re: Would you paint your LO's room..

  • Psh. Yah.  You'd probably be painting it again around then anyway, to have a theme that fits your LO's personality. :)

    Plus, its fun!

  • If I wanted to, yes, but I don't mind painting rooms.

  • I would. We plan on moving to a bigger house at some point while the baby is young too, I'm not letting that hold me back!

  • I would... I can't right now because we are in an apt (and moving in April) but when i can i will!

I love color... hate all white or beige!

  • I wish I could paint LO's room, but we are renting so no dice.  Oh, well.  At least the woman who owns the house has good taste and the current color is okay.

  • We're lucky and our apartments are cool with painting as long as we paint it back when we move out. I'm glad I'm not crazy, haha.

  • Of course! As long as its okay with your landlord (if you're renting the apartment) its important to add unique personal touches to a child's room. My DH & I finally bought our first house almost exactly a year ago and my SS was so excited because we let him pick out a color to paint his room when we picked colors for the nursery. He's never been able to customize his space before.

And you'll be re-painting in a few years as well anyway. Kids change so fast, you'll be lucky if they like their choice in 2 years.

  • Yes! Paint is one of the most inexpensive ways to decorate and the added color will be worth it.

  • We painted my son's room/nursery almost 2 years ago in preparation for his arrival.  Now, we're moving him and this new baby into a shared room nearby, in our same house, and we have to REpaint BOTH rooms...something I could've totally anticipated we would do when we had baby #2, duh...and I deeply, deeply, deeeeeply regret having painted before.  If you had told me then to ask on the bump, or reconsider, I would've said, "yeah, but I get to live with it's awesomeness for almost 2 years!" and I would've done it anyway...what I didn't realize then, what it might be hard to realize now for most, is how quickly 2 years fliiiiiiiiies by and what a PITA it is to have to repaint in that short a time.

So yeah, from experience, I know two things - 1) If I'd even thought to ask this question on the bump 2 years ago and gotten all these "Do it!" responses, I would've done it anyway, just like I did and 2) I totally regret having painted for only a couple years of use, and most definitely think you should NOT make the mistake I did.

    FWIW :)

This exactly. We're either gonna move in August of next year or the next. So, we'll move, but I'll just paint the walls back.

  • Yep, in fact I am!

We rent, and we can do whatever we want as long as we put it back to white before we leave. We already have to repaint SD's room as well as the dog's room.(Actually we have to re-drywall a portion as well lol) So I figured I might as well decorate the nursery how I want it to be!

  • We're in the same boat and we plan to paint 1 or 2 walls of the nursery. So, I say go for it!

  • If you rent - no I wouldn't.  I never painted in any rental and glad I didn't have to go through that deal when I was moving out.

  • What about painting an accent wall? That would be less work and less to change when you move, but would still allow you to personalize and nest. Just a thought!

  • Yes. I'm planning to paint in about a month or so. And we are hoping to move as early as we can next year. Paint totally changes a room.

  • Yes I would.  Im doing a baby nursery that our LO will use for a year or two and then moving her into a larger room later on.  So its about the same thing.

  • I say paint, but that may be because I painted LO's room and I know that we're moving next May/June.  I figure that we're going to be spending a bit of time in that room and it'll be good if it's cheerful and enjoyable.

  • Oh gosh, yes! Your baby will be a toddler before you move? Absolutely I would!

  • Yes, why not?? I am as well!  We just started painting the nursery last night, we are renting a house and actually are probably moving next September.  The room before was for a little girl and the colors were hideous, so we asked our landlord and he was more then willing to let us paint.  We don't mind painting again when we move, we just got the cheapest paint.  We plan to enjoy his nursery while we live here, even if it's only for a short time! • Yes! We are in the exact same boat and DH wasn't really for it at first, but I talked him into it. I want something stimulating for my baby, not just that white wall stuff.
    imageBaby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • Yes, absolutely. It takes a matter of a couple of days and only a little bit of money to paint it, so it's not like you're going way overboard and painting the whole house over, just the one room.  And, it's not as if you're planning to move in 6 months, either.  By 3, you might want to paint it a whole new color or be moving her into a big girl room anyways, so a move at that time would work out well anyways.

  • I would. I plan on repainting in 3 years anyways since the nursery will be becoming a 'big girl' room by then.
