Moms with Toddlers-

Hows your bump holding up?

Is it surviving the kicks, head-butts, and elbows from its loving, caring, and oh-so-gentle older sibling?

My DD got baby-brother-bump and myself REAL good twice yesterday my flinging her head backwards when I was playing with her on the floor... And he was all bunched up on one side at the time- OUCH! I've never had it hurt before, but it seriously almost brought tears to my eyes... Normally she's pretty good, and he'll just catch an elbow (or a corner of a book) from her when she's on my lap, or sitting next to me. I will admit though, I use him as a handy little table top when Im carrying her lol- not sure what he thinks of that.

Has your bump been beaten up lately? Any stories to tell?

  • The leaning up  on her elbows drives me crazy.  That is really the only issues we have so far.

  • I have no stories about myself because this is my first (and last!) baby.  However, one of my good girlfriends had her 2nd baby when her son was barely 2.  And he is a wild child!  I don't know how her bump fared during pregnancy, but once baby girl arrived....lots of kicking, punching, swatting, jabbing, and whatever else occurred regularly.  My friend was really worried and did everything she could to control wild child, and eventually after some discipline, he got the point.  Now baby girl is a year old, and wild child is very gentle and caring.  Like night and day.  GL!

I second that!  DD is not wild by any means, but she's gotten me a couple of times.  We were playing on the big bed and she got behind me and was tangled in the covers.  She started kicking to get them off and kicked me in the back.  The pain was unreal.  I was sore for days afterward.  She also plays "ride the pony" with DH.  She gets on his back and he bounces, then bucks her off.  I thought she was climbing over me to get off the bed one day, but she straddled me instead.  She said "Giddey up!" and bounced one time right on top of my pubic bone. I thought she broke me in half!  I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but both times she hurt me quite a bit.

  • DS is all tried and true boy.  He loves to wrestle anything; a pillow, the dog, and especially Momma and Daddy, so yes, poor baby brother has been hit a time or two.

Actually yesterday was the worst he's ever gotten me before.  I think it was just too much rough and tumble and I hurt too.  Luckily DH came home right after so he was able to take over and let me relax.

And milesc, I totally carry Auden on my belly.  Smile

This. DD likes to use my belly for leverage

    Hate that!!! It hurts!! Ouch!

  • I sometimes have to change DD's diaper on our couch, and the other day she kangaroo kicked me in the belly with both feet! OMG! My first instinct was to swing back... I had to leave the room and cry. I'm not one for hitting, but I was so close. It wasn't a thought process, but a natural instinct to swing. I'm going to have to be more careful.

  • DS, who is 2, likes to lift my shirt up and wave to "Liva"... it sounds like he's saying "liver" with an accent, and why he leaves the "O" off the front, I don't know... He also tries to share things, like a shiny penny, with her through my belly button... with DD, however, he's not a fan of sharing.

DD will be 1 on Monday and has no interaction with my bump at this point. Neither did DS when she was my bump last year, and he was 2 months older than she is now at this stage in the pregnancy.
  • My LO likes to climb on me... The other day she put her hand in *just* the right spot.. I literally yelped in pain and had tears in my eyes.

Ooooh my gosh it hurt so badly.

Other than that I think it's been ok.

Yes, this.  DS will also try to sit right on my belly to cuddle and I have to keep reminding him to be careful and that it hurts when he sits right on my belly.

  • My DD hasn't been too bad. There have been a few crawling over me moments that she was a little rough with but that's about it. It may have something to do with us telling her since 9 weeks to be careful of Mommy's belly. I feel like I say it everyday just as a reminder. I just wish she was more interested in feeling the baby move. She felt it maybe twice and when I call her over to feel it, she says "no, it's weird". I would like for her to be more involved but just hearing how she is going to care for the baby tells me she already is interested.

DS likes to sit in my lap, but he often plops down directly on my bump instead of on my legs. For the most part that and the random kicks, headbutts, etc. haven't been painful. I think I am going to have to give up doing the "Superman" with him though. I can't really breathe anymore in that position.

This! DS is constantly kicking away from me when I have to change him. He got me pretty good one night and I was actually crying while finishing the diaper change.

Lately, he doesn't want to be carried and has been squeezing his legs together and kicking me when he is on my hip(what little hip there is left sticking out). I can't wait to get this baby outta me so that I can start moving around and playing with DS like I used to!

  • DS likes to "cuddle" the baby when I am laying down....in by cuddle, I mean crawl up on top of my bump and snuggle with me.  I try to divert as much of the weight to my chest as I can and limit it to very short periods of time, but its hard to resist my cuddle monster.

  • My two year old is a wild child, but he seems to be very caring and so aware. I did get a stomp a month or so ago when we were playing, but other than that is mainly the elbows.
