Didn't lose ANY weight after giving birth...

Did this happen to anyone else? And how does this happen?!? I have a 7lb 9oz baby...I should have at least lost that much, right? Plus the afterbirth, whatever that weighed. I mean, I'm pretty swollen in my legs and feet but it can't be that much water...I was so excited to go home and weigh myself too :(

Re: Didn't lose ANY weight after giving birth...

  • Did you have an IV during delivery? In addition to any water weight before giving birth that could add a lot too.  I know I had a few bags of fluid in the hospital.

It will come off, just give yourself time!

  • Ditto PP about the IV fluid.

  • Thank you for reminding me about this! I had a really long delivery and went through a ton of IV fluid. I didn't even think of that. I forgot I even had an IV in, so that makes a lot of sense :) Now I don't feel quite so bad.

  • This happened to me--I actually weighed MORE when I got home, but after a few days I was down a lot.  Hang in there.

  • I waited I think a week to weight myself.  Until I noticed the swelling at least going down a little.  I didn't want to get discouraged!  Give it time, especially if you are still noticeable swollen.

  • I still haven't weighed myself almost 3 weeks later, but I probably weighed more after delivery, from what I've seen in pictures of myself after delivery. My face was huge. I have never seen it so fat in my life. But now, I'm fine, back in my pre-pregnancy jeans, so I wouldn't be too sad about the fact that after five days, you still have your weight! It took nine months to pack it on, it's going to take more than five days to lose it!

  • Just give it awhile. YOu have to let your uterus go down (that will be a few ounces), the water weight will come off (I peed and sweat a lot the first few weeks). It's been a month and my weight loss has leveled off. Still trying to lose weight.

  • Ditto the PPs about the IV fluid.

Also, TMI- my first BM at 4 days pp made a big difference on the scale. Embarrassed

At 5 days pp I wouldn't worry. Even between day 5 and today (day 7) I've lost 5 more pounds.

  • With my first son I was in labor for 26 hrs.  That's a lot of fluids I got!  I sweated it out and pee'd it out for a couple weeks.  My legs were so swollen!   Give it a while!  It'll come off.
