For other Crossfitting Nov mommies-to-be...

This post is definitely a brag, but I take these bright moments when I can :)

This morning at my box we did Helen (3 Rounds, 400m run, 21 kb swings, 12 pull ups.) The last time I did Helen was two weeks before I got pregnant, and my time was 13:13.

This morning, I used a 26# kb instead of a 35#, and used a band for pull ups. My time was 13:50.

It felt SO good to have a decent time, after feeling so slow / sluggish for the past few weeks - especially when your work out with people that are in such incredible shape. Definitely made me feel strong, that I'm creating a life AND can kick Helen's bootie :).

Are any of you still Crossfitting? How is going?

  • Holy cow! That is a great time for Helen, pg or not :)

I am still going but not like that.--granted, I wasnt great before all this either.

I have stopped running, it is just uncomfortable (I pee a little, my belly bounces and I hate running anyway). So I do this akward slow jog or try and speed walk Embarrassed

We did a WOD lastnight that had 30sec wall balls, 30sec box jumps and 30sec cleans. followed by a 1min rest--10 rounds

I ended up scaling back the weight and doing step ups for BJs. I felt great afterwards too. I kept my reps up and pushed myself with out feeling strained.

It is an amazing feeling when you can still "hang" in a WoD.

What all have you subbed out?

  • Nice job!

I don't CF anymore, but I'm still doing regular high-intensity strength workouts.

The only thing I can't do anymore (must be abdominal) is a full pull-up.  I used to be able to knock out sets of them, but no more.  Probably not my lat strength, though... I can still row 100 lb. dumbbells.  Embarrassed

Baroo, I'm with you... I wouldn't do BJs either at this point!

  • Nice work, ladies!!

Baroo, I think I'm going to be with you on the running thing soon - the jiggling is getting to be a bit much, and I have noticed that I feel like I'm going to pee my pants, even if I just went to the restroom.

I stopped doing BJ (and moved to step ups) early on - probably around 13 weeks. I had two bad jumps, that left scars on my shin. I just didn't feel coordinated or confident enough (and plus I HATE Box Jumps, so I totally used the preggo card for that!)

I also stay away from handstand pushups, double unders, and muscle snatches - we did snatches the other day and I almost hit my belly twice. No more of those :).

I sub in pike push ups off a box for HSPU, and for doubleunders I usually will do kettlebell swings or mountain climbers or the like - something to match the reps & intensity.

I am really hoping I can keep going until I deliver - at some form or another. I find that I feel SO much better when I'm active versus not. Even though I'm tired, I haven't ever regretted going. I have had to scale weights back, and I always listen to my body, and err on the side of not hurting myself. It took me almost 4 months to feel 'ok' scaling back. I guess I got a bit too used to the mindset of 'heavier, faster, stronger'.

You're awesome!  I'm sure you'll be able to keep it up.  Just keep modifying as you need.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that running is going to last at least another month for me (I keep saying this)... I'm still running 5 miles every day.  I've definitely slowed down, but for me, there's still nothing like a good hard sweat from running.

SO Funny, I was JUST thinking how bad that part of the convo sounds ;)

WTG on the running, the most I do is 3 miles (usually closer to 2) - and those aren't always pretty.

I find that I ask my husband to carry things around the house, but have no issue with weights during my workout. I love using the preggo card when necessary :)

I moved to step ups kind of early too, my balance felt off and I didnt want to chance it.

And I feel you on the snatches, we power cleaned yesterday and I ended up going down in weight and from a hang so I could control it a bit more and miss my bump.

It took me awhile to feel comfortable scaling too, just so used to trying to do as much weight as possible. However, it does help that there is another pg CFer at the box--always seems to be a few.

But yeah, I feel so much better when I am moving. I am hoping to keep at it as long as possible too.

  • Aww, this thread makes me miss Crossfit so much!  I did it for 3+ years, was in the best shape of my life, but I stopped doing it at the end of last year (for various reasons).  That is am AMAZING Helen time!  Go girl!
