So, my c-section is in 12 days. I am a FTM and I'm not sure what to expect. During the section, are you feeling anything? Pulling, pressure, anything? My OB said that once she gets to the uterus, the baby is out in a minute. How long does it take to get to the uterus and then afterwards? The only thing that I am worried about is the spinal, that freaks me out.
Re: What goes on?
I don't remember feeling much from my first two, but this one was bad for me. I must have been more sedated last time? They also pulled out my uterus to look at it closer, and had to push it back in. It hurt a lot. It was a lot of pressure, like they were squishing my abdomen, like they were bruising me.
It hurt a lot BUT the uterus out-then-in thing isn't usual. And like I said, the other two c/s felt way easier. I don't even remember the pressure at all with the first two.
I *THINK* it took about 10 minutes from first cut to baby out. Then about 15 more minutes to examine the uterus and close me up.
I really didn't feel much of anything. I remember my doctor telling me that I was going to feel a lot of pressure, but it was not bad at all. Once I was numb, I think it took about 5 minutes for my son to be delivered. It took much longer to close me up... maybe about 40 minutes? But I had some complications with my incision, so that may not be normal.
The spinal was also a piece of cake. I only felt a tiny pinch from the small needle they use to numb you and that was it. Honestly, I think stressing about what was about to happen was worse than the actual c-section.
Good luck!

I could feel some pulling and pushing. It didn't hurt at all, so it was kind of an odd feeling. I don't think it took very long to get to the uterus, although DH said it felt like forever before he was allowed into the OR. He had to wait in the recovery room until after I was given the spinal block and positioned for the surgery. (I was surprised that I received 3 injections for the spinal block. The injections hurt, but the pain didn't last long.) According to DH, it took around 20 minutes before they had him come in, which was right before DS was delivered. (I started vomiting soon after I received the spinal block, so it is possible that they would have had DH come in sooner if they weren't dealing with me.) After DS was delivered, DH went with him to the room next door. They checked DS's APGARs and weighed, measured, and cleaned him. While that was going on, my OB was removing the placenta and starting to stitch me up. Updates on DS were yelled in to me. Then DH brought in DS to me. They had DH take DS to the recovery room while they finished stitching me up. Once they were done with me, I joined them in recovery.
Mine was similar. I didn't feel much, just some pressure and tugging. Nothing painful. We were able to take pictures, but DS was then taken to the nursery right away, DH went with him. Mine was emergency csection so there was so much going on in my mind, I can't even tell you how long the entire process was, but it felt fast! I went in for normal check up at 37weeks, around 10am, since I had been really sick and blood test showed low palates, the put baby on monitor, OB didn't feel comfortable with the lack of moment and slow heart rate,so sent to L&D, by 11am the admitted, induced my labor. I felt a couple strong contractions, DS heart rate dropped, and that was it, but 330pm he was in the nursery being washed. It was around 230-245 I was taking into surgery room. But it all happened so fast. It was more the after affects that I hated. I had horrible reaction to pain medicine, I was MIA for 2days! My recovery was really bad and difficult. The actually csection was pretty easy...it's the PP that was bad bad for me.

I didn't have a scheduled c/s. I was induced & ended up with a c/s. I got the epi & the only thing I felt was the little needle they use for the numbing meds & it was just a little pinch.
The c/s itself was no where near how I thought it would be. I don't know how long it took. The anesthesiologist told me what was going on, when to expect the tugging feeling & when there were going to push on my stomach. That is what hurt the most because it feels like they're pushing on your chest. DD was really high up so it took them a bit to get her out! Other than that the worst parts was the shaking & getting sick.
Mine wasn't a scheduled c-section. I was to delivering when baby wouldn't come down (I had a larger GD baby) and her heart rate was fluctuating while pushing so we went for the CS. I didn't notice the spinal much because I was in the midst of strong contractions and was focused on them.
After they started it was very quick to when DD was out. I barely felt the tugging/pressure feeling but when doctor was finishing up and cleaning out the placenta I literally asked her if her hands were in my lungs. It wasn't painful but it felt like someone was taking their hands and brushing past my lungs lol. She just laughed and said her hands were in there making sure everything was cleaned out.
I believe we were in the OR a total of 40-45 mins. Recovery was 1 hour and I had DD the whole time. (DH went with her when they first got her out to do weight/height/apgars, etc.)
TBH, I felt a lot of pressure but no pain. My son was frank breech and his head was wedged up very high in my ribs so my OB had to really work hard to pull him out. The spinal was A little uncomfortable but quick and my OB gave me a pillow to hold onto and hugged me at the same time so that my arms couldn't fly forward. I did feel nauseous during the procedure but I let my anestesiologist know right away and he gave me some medicine for it as well as oxygen which helped a lot. I was very grateful to have such a wonderful team in the OR and they let me know everything that was happening. DH was able to hold DS right away and he was handed to me on the stretcher to the PACU where I was able to start BFing right away.
Best of luck to you!!
