Almost two weeks ago I had been taken out of work at my weekly checkup as I had suddenly dilates to a 3 and I was 34 weeks. I worked from the "comfort" of my couch and bed for the next week which was totally uncomfortable but was successful in keeping the babies inside until the 35 week mark.
This past Monday (one week ago) I had a checkup and had no change, I was prettyn"done" at that point and couldn't imagine going to 38 weeks. I wanted healthy babies but my body was just done. That night I called the doctor for some harder contractions and more frequent (I had been contracting for two weeks mostly at night). It was so bad I had called my mom to come over to watch our daughter because I thought that was "it". But... They went away and we all slept.
On Thursday, August 23 at 12:30 am my water broke for baby A in a major way. I was in bed and felt a small leak and got up as quickly as I could for Niagra falls on my floor. It was surprising as it was totally different when my water broke with my daughter. My husband and I called the doctor and my mom, grabbed our bag and zipped to the hospital, I was having minor contractions.
Baby A was head down but baby B was still frank breech. The doctor on call from. My practice was willing to let me try vaginal and play it by ear for a csection. It seemEd to take forever to get from triage to the labor room, by around 3 I was there and requesting an epidural as I was at a 5. Got the epidural and doctor came in to check me and do another ultrasound to confirm baby positions one more time it was then I was already 10 and fully effaced and doctor didn't like the way babya had twisted so he recommended a csection as the safest, leAst complicated route. We agreed and although we had hoped for a vaginal birth the doctors advice was what we respected.
Babies were born at 5:47 and 5:49 am. The csection was a bit scary in that I did Get sick and the shaking was terrible, also didn't like not seeing the babies or knowing exactly what was going on.
Andrew John was born first at 5 lbs 7 oz and David Michael was born second at 5 lbs14 oz. they spent the first 12 hours in the NICU for monitoring due to breathing and temperatures and low blood sugars but both were up on the regular nursery by the end of the day. That part was hard, I was sick from the drugs and sore from surgery, and emotional from not being with the, able to hold them. It got better after they were up with me though and we were able to bond.
Re: My boys are here! Birth story
I wanted to add, the "worst" part of the csection recovery (so far) was that I didn't know about or get was not taking the suppositories they offered in the hospital to poop. They made it sound "optional" and really i should've because after getting sent home I just ended up sending my parents out to get something to help me poop. That Drama could've been avoided.
Best of luck to all of you! I have loved lurking on this board and can't wait now that I've graduated to MOM with outside babies for what happens next. I've been able to tandem nurse (yeah"!!!!) and am committed to taking my recovery slow so I don't over do it, enjoying these babies knowing "this is it"!
