I Know It's a Stupid Question....

I know it's a stupid question, but I can't Google it at work, so I'm going to ask you ladies instead.  Do I have to lose my mucas plug/have a bloody show in order to go into labor?  I've been having contractions in my back since last night, stronger than BH, but not timeable or for a specific amount of time, and when I walked into work this morning I had 3 "HOLY COW YOUR BABY DROPPED!" comments.  Even as I reread this I think "You are such a FTM...if you're in labor, you'll know" but since I'm 80 minutes from my hospital, I get nervous being at work when I start feeling weird.

I called and left a message for my doc just to see if I'm jumping the gun or should pop over for a visit, but I'm just curious about the plug/show stuff and if this is just my body getting ready, or if it's something I should just ignore.

  • From what I have read and from previous experiences on here, you do NOT have to lose your mucus plug to go into labor.

  • You do not have to lose your mucus plug to go into labor! It's definitely a good thing that you called your doctor. It doesn't sound like you're in active labor since your contractions aren't timeable, but I definitely wouldn't ignore any signs of labor just because you haven't lost your mucus plug. Good luck :)

  • I never noticed losing my plug with DD. Some people do... some people don't :)
  • Yes, you can still go into labor! You did good by calling! I had awful back labor with my first baby two weeks before he came.  It lasted 2 days. It was AWFUL contractions.   When they get able to be timed for a while I would kick things into gear :) Good luck!

  • I lost mine a couple weeks ago and although I have been having BH contractions every day and at  last weeks appt (last wed) I was at 2cm, 90% and 0 station I am not in labor.

I think you did the right thing to call your dr - especially since you are so far away from the hospital.

    Good luck!

  • You did the right thing by calling your doctor, my doctor tells me all the time that the MP is nothing to be concerned about if you or don't loose it and most women she said don't. Your not silly your careful and that's always a good thing!!
