Travel with an infant and toddler

In October I will be going on a road trip with my parents from LA to Coeur D'Lane with a 2 1/2 year old and an eight month old.  Does anybody have any good tips on traveling? We are starting overnight so the kids will sleep through the beginning of the drive.

    We're going on a roadtrip in 2 weeks from NJ to Asheville, NC.  Its a 12 hour ride. Bryce will be just shy of 5 months. I'll let you know what worked.
