body pillows

hi,

i'm only about 24 weeks but this sleeping thing is getting uncomfortable! having said that anyone recommend their body pillow?  I feel like the ones I see in the stores are too "thick" they would elevated my belly too much? did anyone just use one of the wedge pillows under their belly? even a regular pillow seems really elevated and was not comfortable.  I have debated folding up a blanket and putting it under my belly too.

anything tried and true would be helpful (or what didn't work too!)

thanks!

  • I used the Walmart cheapy one for my first two pregnancies. It worked fine, but was well worn out and needed replacing. This time when I heard it was twins I went ahead and invested in one of the Boppy full body pregnancy pillows. It is wonderful and goes really skinny in the middle for your belly.

  • I got a Snoogle around 24 weeks and it was the Best. Thing. Ever. I was finally sleeping again and it was wonderful! Eventually my belly got too big for it, so I've been using a wedge since about week 31. Though now my back is bothering me, so I'm going to combine the Snoogle and the wedge. Whatever you can do to make yourself comfortable :)

  • I started sleeping with my Snoogle around 24 weeks, too. I did get to a point where no amount of pillows in any shape helped, but it was great.

  • I tried to save money and use regular pillows but I had a total meltdown one night and my husband ordered a Boppy Pregnancy pillow for me at like 3 am. It was the best thing ever, ever, ever. It gets flat in the middle for your belly, I felt like I could almost sleep on my belly ( as close as I could get). I also used it post partum for a few weeks. I was actually really sad when I had to pack it away, but the divider between us wasn't going to work for my husband forever! I would say the Boppy was SOOO worth the money!

  • I LOVE my Snoogle. Recently, I've had to start propping myself up with a euro size pillow, the Snoogle, and my regular pillow. That has been helping with the increasing hip pain and heartburn. But, the Snoogle's belly and back support has been great.

  • I have the Boppy body pillow and have enjoyed it. More recently in order to give me support on whatever side I sleep, I have started to fold it in half so that when I lay on either side my belly is supported by the pillow.  It has helped so much with the hip pain I was experiencing at night.  I can now actually sleep for almost a 3 hour stretch instead of having to flip sides every hour or so.  Best investment I have made thus far!

  • as weird as this is going to sound, I have found sleeping on an air mattress that is just a little deflated is the most comfortable thing ever. I am 27 weeks along with twins and sleep with no problem on it. its a little interesting to try and get up but to sleep comfortably outweighs that negative. I also have a regular body pillow but dont use it as often when on the air mattress. i am normally a back sleeper so trying to sleep on my side has been a problem since the beginning. I would wake up in pain from top to bottom. the air mattress still gives me enough support with enough give so that my body can relax and sleep.
  • I used a Snoogle and one of the wedges under my belly.  It was the only way I could sleep and after about 32 weeks I didn't sleep more than about 15 minutes at a time until I delivered at 37 weeks. I recommend both. I still sleep with my Snoogle....when my husband isn't stealing it.

  • Thanks all for those suggestions!!  think I might go ahead and try either the wedge/snoogle or the boppy pillow.  the fact that people have used it and it works is super useful.    that air mattress thing is surprising but whatever works works, right?! thanks again! :)
