car seat placement

The supposed safest place for a car seat is back center seat of a car to minimize impact if car is hit on either side, but I have never seen anyone I know do this nor have I seen it in any pictures I have come across online of people's car seats in use. I can't be the only person who only has one car seat in my car for one LO who does this...anyone else?

    Mine is in the back center since that's the only seat that has the LATCH system in my vehicle.

    DS1 was in the center until DS2 arrived. Now DS1 is behind the driver (second safest place) and DS2 is in the middle. Everyone I know puts the youngest in the middle.

    I can't do it in my car because I am stubby enough that I can't really reach the back center of my CR-V very well to get the carseat in and out of it. Everything I've read generally says that as long as you don't have side airbags the center is only a little safer and so I felt comfortable with the trade off. I put him in the center of my friend's Civic and my dad's Mazda though.

    This for me.  It's harder when you have two seats to put in there.  Side by side my DD's high back booster and DS's car seat base wouldn't fit comfortable right next to each other.  Not to mention I don't want my DD's hands all over him while in the car.

    He is often in the middle, but I pick up my niece at least once a week (she is also in a carseat) and so then he moves to the drivers side

    Mine's in the center. I also use the latch system. My sister thinks I'm crazy though for having it in the middle. Just because having it on the side is more convenient. Yeah, sorry, but my baby's safety is more important than convenience!! Even if I do freeze my butt off in the winter getting her in the car! :)
