Doula or not?

We used a doula for our first home birth, I'm debating on whether we'll need one for our second.  Obviously, she was great and really helped us, but I'm thinking that we kind of know what to expect this time around.  Anyone else use a doula for two home births?  What was your experience?

    My first wasn't a home birth, but it was an un-medicated hospital birth. We had a doula.  This time, we will have a home birth and our doula was the first person to know that we were pregnant.  I want her there without question.  I think it's a choice for each mother to make. You might not need a doula, but it might be nice to have the extra help . . .

    I am assuming that you will have midwives attending your HB. Maybe ask them, I know my MW said I wouldn't need a doula because I already had hubby and my cousin plus the MW team. GL with your decision.

    I had a doula at the hospital, but #3 was at home and I had my BF and midwives there and felt I didn't need one.  I had more than enough support.  I am not hiring one with #4 (also at home).

    IMO, it is always better to have one and not need her, than to need her and not have her. I am a doula, and have attended several home births. The MW I work with doesn't have a team though, so I am basically her second. So, if your midwife is a lone midwife, a doula would be a great idea, if your midwife comes as a team, a doula most likely isn't necessary.

    I did not hire a doula for my homebirth because both my midwives and their assistant were doulas. Plus, my husband rocked at being my support system during labor. If we by chance have another, I would probably do it the same way.
