Do you have a walker or still waiting?

Well, DS took his first steps (4-5 steps, 4 times) about 3.5 weeks ago.

He hasn't done it since.  He can "finger" walk.  Even with one finger, decent.

I'm confused at why he doesn't want to try to walk again.  I was just wondering if anyone else still have a non-walker or had a similar situation.  I'm sure DS's stubborness has something to do with it...

  • DS was a preemie so I'm not sure if it has anything to do with it but no walking yet! He is so close though, he's been standing on his own for several weeks now and if we hold one of his hands he will walk but hasn't tried on his own yet :

  • Our DD is exactly the same. She's done it once or twice, and can do the one-finger walk OK, but really doesn't seem too interested. I figure she'll get there someday! We're also starting a parent/child class this Friday, so I figure once she interacts with others her age that do walk, she may have more of a desire to walk then.

Also, she is extremely tall for her age, so I figured that may affect her balance or coordination a bit too.

  • DS is cruising all over and walks with us or behind a push toy like a pro, but has yet to take any steps on his own.  DD took her first steps the day after she turned 1, but didn't actually walk until between 14 and 15 months.

  • DD walks now, but had a similar smart. I think she knew that it was still WAY faster to crawl than to walk.

  • DS is a big time "finger walker". He wants to do that all day and its killing my back :) He has been getting steadier over time so yesterday and today i tried pulling my fingers out, but he just laughs and leans back against me. I'm in no rush for him to walk, but his problem is he can't even pull himself up yet. He doesn't transition from belly to sitting to standing or vice versa.

  • My crazy kid can walk, he just prefers to walk holding my fingers most times and gets pissy when I want to do other things - like stand up straight lol. Unless I'm trying to get him ready for bed - then he magically can run from me, no problem.

Toddlers. There's no rhyme or reason to their behavior.

  • My LO took her first steps right after she turned 11m, then it took a long time for her to really get the hang of it. By her bday, she was better but still wobbly/falling a lot/ randomly crawling. Just in the past 2wks she really got a lot better, now she rarely crawls unless it's to get under a table or something lol.

  • DD finger walked for a long time from about 9 to 11 months old, at 11 1/2 she just let go and even know that she walks almost runs.. She has started to crawl again. She thinks it's fun.

  • My little man started to take 3 or 4 around the 19th. This past Thursday he did about 10 steps today he is all over the place. Granted he walks like frankenstein but he is walking.

I will happen when he is ready.

  • DS just started walking yesterday:)  He has been taking steps consistently for about a month. He took a couple steps over two months ago, then nothing for a few weeks.  Now he's walking all over the house.  My first DS went from crawling to walking a lot faster.  They're all different.  With some it takes a lot longer to build up the confidence.
  • No walking of any kind or standing or cruising .

  • Still waiting.  Kids are just so different.  DD#1 was crawling by 8 months and walking the week of her first birthday.  DD#2 never crawled, started scooting at 11 months and is pretty darn content keeping it that way.  She only JUST learned how to sit up on her own from laying down.  Not concerned...quite happy I don't have a second to run after just yet.
