My almost 11 month old is doing good with eating most solids. He likes nearly everything. He's great at chewing, but he is not interested in picking up and putting the food in his mouth. He is great with cheerios and puffs, but if it is soft and mushy not at all. I also feel like it takes him a long time to get full eating solid bits so I still do puress a lot. Does this sound about right? I was thinking for now offer a stage 1 size with each meal and then let him fill up hte rest of the way with solids. Anyone do it like this?
Also, at this age 3 meals and how many snacks?
What all is your little one eating?
And, what all do you offer at each meal. Do you just offer 1 or 2 things? Is there a certain amount of fruit, veg, meat, grains whatever you try to offer each day or per meal?
And I'm so nervous about big bites, dh is way more brave. I'm just not sure I really get what he can handle so I make everythign SO small. Like I cut blueberries in several pieces, is this typical?
Thanks for your advice.
Re: Solid Foods
My kids are both great eaters, and we are pretty adventurous. I don't get too anxious about it. Everything comes around in time, it's up to you to keep offering a variety of foods, then let your son practice!
DS is eating just about anything that is nutritious and easy to mash. Yesterday he had: yogurt, some avocado, a sweet potato with cinnamon, bits of cheese and whole wheat bread, and then 4 6 oz. bottles of formula. He fed himself the avacado, bread and cheese. He also gets some Puffs every day because it's good for him to practice picking them up.
Only you can determine when your child is hungry and full. Every baby is different. It's easy for me to tell, he will literally clamp his mouth shut and turn away when he is full. Don't be nervous! That takes the fun out of it
We did BLW, so my kid has been on normal table foods since 6 months. He eats 3 meals a day, and snacks only when we do, because if he sees us eating, he wants to eat too.
He eats everything that we eat for all 3 meals, so name a food and he's likely eaten it.
For breakfast he usually has fruit and yogurt - this morning it was strawberries, but he loves plums and blueberries, mango and watermelon so they work their way in. I don't cut up anything except the mango and watermelon - he gets those in slices.
For lunch he has whatever DH and I have. Today it was baked chicken strips, grape tomatoes ( I cut them in half - he goes crazy for them) and slices of clementines.
For dinner, he eats what we eat. Tonight it's roast pork and sweet potatoes.
