So I called my OB this morning to ask about my weird heart symptoms. I dont have any history of heart problems or irregular heartbeat....but in the last month or two of my pregnancy lots of things have been happening.
My heart will occasionally start racing. Usually when I'm just laying down. Or skip a beat. Or even flutter and act weird. Its very unerving.
It passes after 5-10 seconds but happens almost daily.
Does anyone experience this?? They want me to go to the hospital and be evaluated which I'm really hesitant to do. Anyone have any thoughts?
Re: Heart Problems?
If it's something that you're worried about, why are you hesitant to at least to get checked out?
i have always had an irregular heartbeat. its a condition that i have had for a long time. my doctor didnt seem too concerned about it. he said that if my chest starts to hurt or it continues for longer than a couple of minutes to have it checked.
i would maybe have it checked just to be safe. cause i know that when i feel it coming on, i sometimes feel like im going to pass out. im pretty good at controlling it nowadays with some breathing techniques. but...im sure if you tell your doc, they will probably want to have you checked.
I've had this happening the last few months, daily, but sure lasting longer than 5-10 seconds. It lasts for 30 minutes+ most of the time. While I am doing NOTHING, my resting heart rate will go up to 130 easily. I mentioned it to my OB at every appointment and after about a month and a half of me complaining, they told me to go to a cardiologist. I went last week, and the cardiologist did an EKG, and I go tomorrow for an echo cardiogram.
Long story short, they say that when it happens, 99% of the time it is hormonal and related to pregnancy since your heart stretches to accommodate the nearly double blood flow that you have in pregnancy. But 1% of the time, it is a serious condition (I didn't ask what the condition is). So when it is happening, they would prefer to check you out because if it IS that serious condition, they need to know before labor. If it's not, then it will likely go away after delivering the baby, and it is labelled "pregnancy induced tachycardia" and will just annoy the hell out of you and feel very inconvenient for a while. It is true that 90% of pregnant women are experiencing the symptoms but never feel it, but it's still better to be safe than sorry. Always.
Bottom line - go to a cardiologist, get checked out.
