Obviously I'm not typical

.....Since last weekend, at 17 weeks I had to big gushes of amniotic fluid and was hospitalized for 3 1/2 days :(

Needless to say, we're still a nervous wreck. How could we not be? I'm basically on bedrest (couch rest) and am really only allowed to go to the bathroom and shower.  It's not very reassuring when they tell you there's nothing they can do for you until your 23 weeks and with waters breaking that's a sign of labor and it can take up to three weeks to go into labor. The only saving grace is that once we were released, then it happened again and we went back... the fluid had NOT come from Baby B's sac as it had originally. Anyway, why I'm here today is to ask....

Have you or anyone you knew lost fluid mid-pregnancy and still went on to have healthy babies/baby? (I haven't found much positive feedback).

Also, I've had abdominal pain for days. It's not "cramps" it's just aching, and occasional "lighting crotch".  I wouldn't expect this at 18 weeks but I'm already a big girl so thought maybe my fellow chubby chicks would have some feedback on that.

Sleeping with aching leg pain and hip pain, normal at this point?

I have my first follow-up ultrasound at my Dr's office tomorrow, then Friday a follow up with my Dr and a MFM out of town. Nerve wracking week for us but praying for good results.

Re: Obviously I'm not typical

  • I don't know anyone who has lost fluid mid-pregnancy, but I am hoping that you are in a much better position than them since baby B's sac has repaired itself. Have you spoken with your doctor about the abdominal pain? I would call to get an opinion on that because it could mean a number of things. Stay strong, mama. Please rest as much as possible, and get lots of fluids! I know many of us here will be praying for you and your family.

  • Per Dr's orders when I was released from the hospital I was to call my Dr's office and schedule a follow-up ultrasound, and Dr's appointment. The soonest they could get me in with the Dr is this Friday, I also have an appointment at a High-Risk MFM Friday and follow up with my regular OB the same day.

  • I am so sorry you are going through this!
I do know someone that was pregnant with a singleton and her water broke very early. I don't remember the exact GA, but I think her water broke on Easter and she was due in July. She did 50 days of bedrest and delivered a healthy baby boy. He was in the NICU for awhile, but is doing great now. I think he just turned 3.
Hoping for all the best with your LOs!

  • I was on bed rest in the hospital and had a roommate whose water broke. She made it six weeks. She probably could have gone longer but started walking around to get labor to start since she was far enough along.

  • I'm sorry you are going through this, and I'm sorry that you have to wait! UGH! I do not know anyone who has lost fluid in a pregnancy, so I can't help you there. I have, however, been on couch rest/restricted activity for almost two months now and I can assure you that your leg pain/hip pain can be attributed to your lack of moving. Mine started with legs and hips, and not to scare you--but now everything is sore. Shoulders, elbows, knees, everything. If you don't have a pregnancy pillow, I'd recommend getting one of those, but they don't always help. Do you have a recliner? That takes the pressure off my hips sometimes.

     Good luck to you!

  • I always had an aching feeling .... might be due to stretching/growing but I would definitely ask your dr! Twin pegnancy is nerve wracking as it is plus you have to worry about your fluid! Ill keep you in my thoughts and prayers! :
