A whole new round of separation anxiety?

C's been going to DC every day for 1.5 years now.  This morning I dropped him off and he didn't want to go in and then really, really didn't want me to leave.  He just wanted to hug me the whole time and when his teacher picked him up, he just laid his head on her shoulder and cried huge, silent alligator tears.  I felt awful.  Are we up for another round of separation anxiety soon?  It was enough to make me quite my job right there.  Wahhhhhhh!  FTR, he is always so happy during the day at DC and loves all of the teachers so I don't think there is anything in particular that he is scared of.

Lulu's started this too - and it doesn't matter if I leave her at DC or with her dad.  Today was awful, all she wanted to do was be held by me.  And when I finally got her engaged in an activity, I said goodbye and she flipped out.  Her teacher held on to her, giving her hugs and comfort.

I had to duck into another room to drop something off, and before I left checked on her again... She was laughing and smiling, playing with her friends.  So, I know she's ok, but it's still tough.

Thanks mands - Sorry to hear it's bad for Lulu too but glad it's just a normal stage in that case.  I had to do the same thing, duck into his main room to drop off his bag, and when I walked back by he wasn't crying but saw me and just gave me a sad look.  Crap.  Sad  In a weak moment, I just went on to his school store and bought him his very puppet that is his favorite and school.  I paid a ton of shipping but it's worth it.

  • Totally normal in my experience; I've been working with toddlers the last 5 years so I've seen my fair share of tears. This is definitely an age that this happens again. Ask your caregivers, I'll bet your LOs are done crying a minute after you walk out the door. Stay strong mamas!
