Every time I read wine posts on here I think it sounds so good. Then I try it and it tastes gritty and bitter. What's a good baby wine--as in a wine that tastes like juice?
Also, Olive Garden sells a Moscato by Primo Amore. It's hard to find in stores, but if they have the right license, you can buy it from them. It is the best thing on Earth! Moscatos are a sweeter wine.
OO thanks guys. I'll have to add Arbor Mist to my grocery list this week.
Also it's super cheap, how great is that?!
I see people posting about Mascatos too, but honestly some are sweet and some our bitter. I am still learning which brands are sweet vs bitter. I'd stick with Arbor Mist as a nice beginner. Haha.
Okay.. I guess this should have been my FFFC last week but.. I've never bought a bottle of wine (only the boxed kind to get drizzunk in high school). And I know NOTHING about it. The bottle will just say Riesling Drink Me MikeHoncho, or what? Is Riesling the brand or the type? Help a wine virgin out here!
Yep, moscato is what I would recommend too. It tastes like juice to me, or at least my favorite one does...zonin (brand) and I also like the cupcake (brand) moscato but it's not as sweet as zonin, IMO.
Since you're getting a lot of Riesling recs, my favorite Riesling is Kung Fu Girl.
Honestly, you should go to a big big liquor store, the kind with a huge wine selection, that does tastings. Or alternatively, a wine bar. Tell one of the employees that you don't have much experience drinking wine and would like to get into it. I have found that most of them like sharing their knowledge and won't make you feel lame. They can let you try some stuff and find out what you like.
As far as what I drink a lot of: I'm a big fan of malbecs, which is a type of red wine from Argentina. I think they taste pretty grape-y, but they aren't super sweet. They also happen to be fairly affordable. Even the Cupcake malbec is good.

Mmmmmm, Port! I had a late harvest Reisling once, and I almost died from yumminess! If only desert wines did not cost so much!!

For a newbie, moscato and gewurztraminer are tasty and sweet. Any demisec would be nice as well. Do you live near any wineries? It would be worth checking them out and having a tasting day!
When I was new to wine the only thing I could drink was a moscato. My favorite at that time was a sparkling moscato, Tintero Moscato d'Asti. I have never met anyone who doesn't love Tintero. A decent cheap moscato is Barefoot Moscato. It's pretty much available anywhere. If you shop at Aldi, their Moscato and Ice Wine are also good, but the Ice Wine is seasonal/special buy so it might not be available right now. Depends on if your store has any left from the promo period. Anyway, eventually I got into late harvest rieslings. Since you're a fellow Michigander, I'd check out Chateau Grand Traverse Late Harvest Riesling. You should be able to find it pretty easily, like at Meijer. It's a bit pricier. Not super expensive, but definitely not Barefoot cheap. I'm also a fan of of the gewurztraminers, but, again, not initially. Good luck! Lately I'm more of a craft beer girl, but finding new wines to try was great fun!
ETA: Watch for the CGT LH Riesling at restaurants, too. I see it on menus all the time.
I was going to say a late harvest Cabernet is super sweet, it's like drinking syrup. But I think they might be on the expensive side. Gewurztraminer is a sweet white wine that is very tasty and refreshing.

I like the Cupcake moscato too, my favorite moscato brand is Flip Flop. Also I hate wine but I could down a bottle of moscato.

Anything that says "ice wine". Muscatos are also good! I'm not a big wine drinker. I can't drink red and I only like very fruity whites. Ice wine tastes like white grape juice. You can also go to the "dessert wines section" I love this wine called Electra it has an angel on the bottle, it tastes like oranges! You want it very cold also! I sometimes put ice cubes in the glass.

. I forgot that you were a Michigander! West side, right? We have some awesome wineries in our southwest corner. Two in my town, check out Karma Vista. You would love their Razzamataz! It tastes like a "soupedup" grape juice.
Re: Recommend a wine for a non-wine drinker
Took the words right out of my mouth. Seriously Arbor Mist Exotic Fruits IS koolaid. Yummm.
They have a Pinot Noir that tastes like juice.

Moscato is a very sweet wine, Yellow Tail is a brand of that that I like.
I personally dislike Arbor Mist but love love wine.
Well, Arbor Mist isn't REALLY wine. lol. Maybe something sweeter like Riesling or Moscato.
eta: or White Zin. lol

I agree about the arbor mist and I was going to suggest reisling as well! It's really sweet, you should try it.
Banrock Station Pink Moscato.

Where do you keep wine? In the fridge?

Electra Moscato Tastes like oranges
Rosa Regale (sparkling red) Tastes like raspberries
And there's always Port. It is super sweet, to me it's like syrup. Way too sweet.
